Construction of unique CV03 floating transshipment terminal has started

On January 15, 2018, the Besiktas Shipyard (Yalova, Turkey) laid the keel of a head port roads transshipment terminal with a 35 t crane and a 4600 m³ hold of the project CV03 (building number 81).

Prj.CV03 is designed by Marine Engineering Bureau.

The CV03 transshipment terminal is designed to provide port roads reloading of bulk cargoes, primarily ore, with help of the crane from sea-river vessels to marine bulkers. Possibility of cargo accumulation during break between "large" vessels arrival is foreseen (feeder dry cargo vessels arrive more often).

CV03 terminal is as a marine steel non-self-propelled crane vessel with cargo hold, of a simplified hull shape, with 63.86 m length, with 24 m breadth, with 7.20 m depth, with transom fore and aft ends, with forecastle and poop, with living deck-house and diesel generator room (engine room) located aft, with a cargo hold at the middle, with a aft cargo crane at CL.

LIEBHERR cargo crane of CBG350 type is installed onboard. The maximum outreach of crane's boom is about 46 m. Crane's lifting capacity is 35 t (at 12-30 m outreach), 30 t (at 30-36 m outreach). Crane provides output up to 20.0 t per day.

Cargo operations at sea are allowed at waves force up to 4 (maximum wave height 2.0 m), wind force up to 5 due to the Beaufort scale (wind speed up to 20.0 m/s).

Deadweight is 6980 t at draught of 5.60 m. Capacity of the cargo hold is 4600 m³. The hold is made as a classic "bulk" type with double bottom of 1300 mm height, double sides of 2000 mm width and with inclined plates at the bilge and under the deck, with high hold coaming of 2880 mm height. Allowable load onto the tank top is 12 t/m³.

The cargo hold is protected from bad weather by a special closing.

In order to prove operation of the port roads transshipment terminal in the seas, an experimental and numerical estimations were carried out for the wettability of a crane vessel with a cargo hold without hatch cover.

Towing tank tests of the vessels model were carried out at the regular waves, height of which matches to the height of 3% probability irregular waves at the expected operational area. This approach is harder in terms of the determined rolling parameters. According to the results of the tests, it was found that at full loading case the model's motions at all considered waves and course angles don't lead to the hold's flooding even when the deck is wetted (vessel's position beam to the sea). The reason is enough big vessel's depth and high cargo hold coaming.

Similar results were obtained by calculations using the software complex "Kachka" for irregular waves.

For hull design of CV03 prj., strength calculations using FEM plate idealization (3-D model of the entire hull with all the main foundations) were widely used. Such choice has been made due to vessel's complex functionality (marine operation of 35 t crane plus hard ore cargo up to 700 t in the cargo hold.

The power plant consists of two (or single) main 900 kW diesel generators and an auxiliary 160 kW diesel generator. Heavy fuel oil IFO380 of 380 cSt viscosity is used. Autonomy of the vessel is 20 days for fuel, lub. oil, water and provisions consumption. The maximum stores capacity is 200 t.

Ballast water of 3700 t is pumped in for far ballast voyages.

The following is intended for crew and maintenance staff accommodation:

• 2 single block cabins (salon and bedroom) with lavatory and shower;
• 3 single cabins for the crew with lavatory and shower;
• 3 double cabins for the crew with lavatory and a shower;
• 2 four-bed cabins for maintenance staff with a lavatory and a shower.

Two single cabins are provided with 1 extra bed.

The total number of places onboard is 21.
