RST27 chemical tanker "Balt Flot 17" transports sunflower oil owned by "Products of Sun" Holding

As to information of press-service of "Products of Sun" Holding, RST27M oil/chemical tanker "Balt Flot 17" of Volgo-Don Max class departed for the voyage with 5 thousand tons of sunflower oil onboard from holding's factory at Balakovo to the Rostov-on-Don.

For information: since 2008 sunflower oil can be transported by chemical tankers only.

"Products of Sun" Holding is one of the leaders of the food oil industry of Russia.

Big navigation at Volga River started already on 8th of April, 2018 but water area new factory at Balakovo was still covered by ice. Factory's management took decision to fulfil icebreaker operations and to hire technical fleet.

Hired icebreaker assisted the tanker to pass the route during one day. In time fulfilled works allows to delivery production in proper time and to meet our engagements, - told Alexander Khoroshilov, CEO of the factory.

Delivery by water transportation is one of the perspective ideas of logistic. During 2017 navigation (May - November) Balakovo factory loaded 17 vessel by 43 thousand tons of sunflower oil in bulk and by 9 thousand tons of granulated seed cake. Also 10 vessels with summarized grain cargo of 30 thousand tons departed from the factory's berth last year.

RST27M oil/chemical tanker "Balt Flot 17" (building No. 02025) of Volgo-Don Max class was built at Nizhniy Novgorod "Krasnoe Sormovo" Shipyard (Mikhail Pershin is a general director) in 2017.

Vessel is built for BF Tanker Shipping Company (Dmitriy Olerskiy is a general director).

Project RST27 was designed by Marine Engineering Bureau.

In comparison with RST27, the chemical tanker of new project RST27M has an increased marine function:

• the deadweight is 7902 t for maximal draught of 4.60 m (RST27 prj. actually has deadweight 7072 t), which is more by 880 t;
• the capacity of cargo tanks is worked out for transportation of oil products of the Caspian region and is increased by constructing higher trunk up to 8970 m³ (RST27 has 8100 m³), i.ะต. addition is 870 m³;
• three types of cargo (RST27 has two types of cargo).

Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping class notation is KM Ice1 R2 AUT1-ICS VCS ECO-S OMBO Oil tanker /Chemical tanker type 2 (ESP).

As other river-sea going MEB tankers, RST27M vessels use full-circle rudder propellers as single movement and manoeuvre unit. They have increased trunk and use submersible cargo pumps. They have no longitudinal bulkhead in CL and no framing in cargo tanks.

Vessels satisfy dimensions of the Volga-Don Canal and Volga-Baltic Way. Overall vessel length is of 140.85 m, breadth is of 16.6 m, depth is of 6.0 m. Vessels belong to "Volgo-Don Max" class.

Special requirements of the Russian and world petroleum companies, additional ecological RS limitations of "ECO PROJECT" (ECO-S) class were taken into consideration during designing.

Vessels are assigned for transportation of oil and oil products with a density of 0.7 to 1.015 t / m³, as well as harmful liquid substances in bulk, including those requiring heating to temperature of 60°C, without restriction on the flash point.

Three types of cargo are transported in one voyage.

Vessel can transport an expanded list of other liquid cargo in addition to oil and oil products:

• Castor oil;
• Cocoa butter;
• Coconut oil;
• Corn oil;
• Cotton seed oil;
• Groundnut oil;
• ILLipe oil;
• Linseed oil;
• Mango kernel oil;
• Olive oil;
• Palm kernel oil;
• Palm kernel olein;
• Palm kernel stearin;
• Palm mid-fraction;
• Palm oil;
• Palm olein;
• Palm stearin;
• Rapeseed oil;
• Rice bran oil;
• Safflower oil;
• Shea butter;
• Soyabean oil;
• Sunflower seed oil;
• Tung oil;
• Methyl alcohol (Methanol);
• Methyl tert-butyl ether;
• Ethyl tert-butyl ether;
• Ethylene glycol;
• Cacium lignosulphonate solution;
• Ethyl acetate;
• Hexane (all isomers);
• Octanol (all isomers);
• Sodium hydroxide solution;
• Toluene;
• Urea/ammonium nitrate solution;
• Xylenes;
• Acetone;
• Ethyl alcohol;
• Isopropyl alcohol;
• Diethylene glycol;
• Glycerine.

Total capacity of six cargo tanks and two slop ones is of 8970 m³ (at 98% filling), deadweight is 7902 t (after inclining test) at marine draught of 4.60 m. Deadweight is 5363 t for river draught of 3.60 m. Cruising speed is of 10.5 kn.

It should be noted that despite a slight increase in the light weight of the vessel, the actual river deadweight is kept almost the same as at RST27 (5363 t for RST27M against 5420 t for RST27), therefore the traditional tasks on inland waterways will be decided by new vessels no worse than the famous original project RST27.

Cargo system provides simultaneously transportation of 3 types of cargo. Cargo pumps capacity is 6 x 200 m³/h. Two auxiliary steam boilers (capacity 2.5 t/h each) and two recycling steam boilers (capacity 0.45 t/h each) are installed onboard.

The heating system provides keeping the temperature 60°C of the transported cargo during the voyage (while outside temperature is -23°C) and also heating the cargo from 50 to 60°C during 48 hours (for oil products). The heating system provides keeping the temperature 45°C of the transported cargo during the voyage of 45°C (while outside temperature is -23°C) and also the heating the cargo from 45 to 65°C during 96 hours (for vegetable oils).

Two medium-speed diesels (main engine) of 1200 kW each use heavy fuel oil with viscosity IFO380. There is 230 kW bow thruster.

Electrical plant consists of three 292 kW diesel-generators and emergency-staying 136 kW diesel-generator.

Crew consists of 12 persons (14 places + pilot).

Autonomy is of 20/12 days (sea/river).
