Marine Engineering Bureau jointly with "Zavod Nizhegorodskiy Teplokhod" suppose to resume building of pontoon cranes for the Russian Federation's rive

Basic facilities of the Russian Federation's river ports for reloading bulk and general cargoes are multi-purpose full-turning pontoon cranes with carrying capacity of 5-16 tons with variable boom and working in grab-hook mode.

Especially they are important for terminals with comparable small freight turnover. They are used for any dry cargoes, mobile, are not dependent on coastal energy sources.

Nowadays 1270 of pontoon cranes with carrying capacity of 5-16 tons are being operated in the Russian Federation's rivers. Most of them were built in 70 - 80-ies of XX century.

43% of the soviet river pontoon cranes were built at PC "Zavod Nizhegorodskiy Teplokhod".

Totally since 1957 - 1589 cranes have been launched at the shipyard, including cranes of such projects: 1451, 2222, 2251, 454, 528, 721, 81040, 81050, etc.

Last 81040 prj. crane old keel-laid was completed in 2002.

New non-self-propelled pontoon crane with carrying capacity of 16 tons, designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau, will be assigned:

1. For reloading works in grab and hook modes at harborage, satisfying Russian River Register class "O";

2. For assembly works fulfilling at the shipyards, for launching and lifting of the small craft;

3. For salvage operations' carrying out at harborage, satisfying Russian River Register class "O".

Its main feature will be usage of company "Liebherr" CBW-S16/28 crane. It will allow to get essential productivity increase of reloading comparable with the 81040 project was being built before, which used KPL 16-30 crane of the own production.

Main characteristics of the new project crane:

- carrying capacity in all booms is of 16 tons;

- maximum boom (from crane's centerline plane) is of 28 m;

- maximum boom (from crane's side) is of 20.1 m;

- maximum working angle of the crane boom is of 80°;

- minimum working angle of the crane boom is of 80°;

- height of hook lifting above water level is of 36 m;

- autonomy is of 20 days;

- overall length/breadth of the pontoon is of 32.6 / 15.8 m;

- depth is of 2.6 m;

- draught is of 1.10 m.

Basic working variants will be following schemes:

- "vessel-coast" is for bulk and general cargo discharge;

- "coast-vessel" is for bulk and general cargo loading;

- "underwater open-cast mine – vessel" is for sand, gravel, sand-gravel mixtures mining and loading;

- "river-bed vessel" is for timber loading from water;

- "vessel-vessel" is for bulk and general cargo reloading.

Experts think that the time has come to pay attention to all components of the river transport, first of all to the system waterway and ports' development, cause without them transport fleet building loses sense.

Pontoon crane and technical fleet vessels are one of the basic elements of this development.
