MPSV07 "Spasatel Demidov" and MPSV06 "Murman" took part in exercises in the Kara Sea and on the coastal strip of the Yamal Peninsula

According to the Marine Rescue Service website, during August 15-19, 2019, 4 MW multi-purpose MPSV07 rescue vessel "Spasatel Demidov" with Arctic ice class ARC5 and 7 MW MPSV06 "Murman" with the Icebreaker 6 class (both built in 2015) took part in complex exercises in the Kara Sea and on the coastal strip of the northwestern part of the Yamal Peninsula.

Salvors conducted exercises for search and rescue of people, firefighting at floating drilling rigs, oil spill elimination in the Kara Sea and pollution elimination of the coastal strip.

With the participation of the "Kigoryak" icebreaker, a threat of collision of ice objects with drilling rigs was trained.

These were complex joint exercises of "Gazprom Geologorazvedka LLC" and FSBE "Marine Rescue Service" for emergency response during drilling (construction) of exploration and prospecting-evaluation wells.

The MPSV07 "Spasatel Demidov", MPSV06 "Murman", Р-70202 "Baltika" and "Kigoriak" icebreaker, as well as specialized rescue teams were involved in the exercises from the Marine Rescue Service.

During the exercise, various scenarios of possible emergency situations were played out and joint actions of services and units concerning potential threats were tried out.

All actions were effected with consideration the special character of the Kara Sea, which is characterized by a large annual temperature amplitude, frequent storms and blizzards, and high relative humidity. Such conditions require special training from salvors.

One of the stages of the exercises was the elimination of oil pollution of the coastal strip of the Yamal Peninsula. This scenario was tried out at Kamenniy Cape by a team of Marine Rescue Service.

According to expert estimation, the complex exercises were successful. The coherence, clear actions of all teams in the difficult conditions proposed by the scenario and climatic conditions confirmed their readiness to respond promptly to the possible threat of accidents.

"Spasatel Demidov" is a unique multifunctional rescue vessel by her equipment and available technology; she was built at Russian shipyard due to the order of FSUC "State Customer Management of Maritime Transport Development Programs" of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport of the Russian Federation. Vessel was built in behalf of Marine Rescue Service of RosMorRechFlot.

MPSV07 prj. was designed by Marine Engineering Bureau.

Multifunction salvage vessel of MPSV07 prj. is to carry out operations as follows:

• patrolling and emergency rescue duty at the navigation regions, fishing regions, oil and gas marine recovery regions;
• provide technical support and help in the regions dangerous for navigation and marine products catching, servicing of terminal transport operations;
• search and help vessels in distress;
• search, salvage, evacuation operations for people, rendering medical aid for people;

• survey and cleaning underwater hull part of vessels, floating and coastal objects;
• investigation of sea floor and damaged objects when depth is less than 1000 m.

Vessels of MPSV07 project have unrestricted navigation area, including sailing through the Northern Sea Route. For this purpose, the requirements of the Rules of RMRS, existing international conventions and "Requirements for construction and equipment of vessels sailing by the Northern Sea Route" have been fully taken into account during the designing and construction. For example, all the fuels, oils and other tanks with liquid pollutants are located in such way that the tank content doesn't contact with the outer shell.
