New names of RSD22 dry-cargo vessels - in honour of the captains of the Volga Shipping Company that participated the Great Patriotic War

As the Volga Shipping Company informs, three RSD22 dry-cargo vessels started 2020 navigation at low Volga in April with new names. In honour of the 75th anniversary of the WWII Victory they were renamed after captains of the Volga Shipping Company that participated the Great Patriotic War and spent all their lives working at fleet: Vladimir Andreevich Kirillov (m/v "Vladimir Kirillov"), Andrey Ivanovich Belodvortsev (m/v "Andrey Belodvortsev") and Evgeniy Mikhailovich Matveev (m/v "Evgeniy Matveev").

These vessels were converted from 05074T tankers to dry-cargo vessels under the RSD22 project in 2019.

From the work commence, vessels of the Volga Shipping Company have already transported more than 500 thousand tons of various cargoes through the low Volga.

On the 22nd of April, 2020 the cargo navigation at high Volga has started.

Vessels "OT 2459" and "Volgo-Don 195" sailed out of lock gates of Gorodetsk waterworks facility (Nizhniy Novgorod Region) towards Cherepovets for ferrous metal loading.

The conversation RSD22 project was developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The converted RSD22 vessel transportation of the general and bulk cargoes including grain, timber, containers of internationall standard in holds.

RSD22 is a steel, single-deck, twin-screw cargo vessel, without sheer of deck, with double bottom and double sides, with forecastle and poop, with engine room and deck-house located aft, with 4 cargo holds, with hatch covers of moving type, with bow thruster.

The RSD22 dry-cargo vessel has Russian River Register class notation M-PR 2,5 (ice 20) A; her dimensions are as follows: 138.30 x 16.70 x 5.50 m (length x breadth x depth) and draught of 3.70 m.

RSD22 vessel's area of navigation is internal waterways of the Russian Federation while permissible 3%-probability wave height is 3.0 m; that corresponds to waterways of "M" category. Also navigation area includes coastal marine regions of "M-PR 2.5" category while permissible 3%-probability wave height is 2.5 m without international voyages.

Vessel's deadweight is 5450 t for Summer free board.

Capacity of 4 holds is 6706 m3 (1841, 1465, 1335 and 2017 m3 accordingly); hold width is 12.3 m at the tank top level and 13.1 at the deck level.

Permissible tank top load is 9.0 t/m².

Fore and aft pairs of cargo holds are equipped by water-tight moving double-section hatch covers that provide simultaneously 50%-opening of all holds or 100%-opening of any pair of holds. Hatch covers are designed for load in accordance with RRR requirements for "M-PR" class (9.81 kPa). Cargo transportation on hatch covers isn't foreseen. Hatch covers fixation in the open position is done by turnbuckles. Hatch covers fixation in the closed position is done by hand bolt bars. Hatch covers lifting above coamings are made by hydraulic jacks.

Covers moving is carried out with by wire ropes driven by two LE61M winches. Design of covers and their outfitting provides shockless moving of covers and avoiding of sparking.

The vessel is equipped by two 880 kW medium-speed main engines. There are fixed pitch propellers in steering nozzles and 95 kW bow thruster.

Operational speed is 20 km/h, autonomy is 15 day.

Hull has a double bottom and double sides; main deck has hatch opening of 0.806B width; continuous longitudinal coamings of cargo hatches are of 1.0 m height.

Crew / places are 14 / 17.

In the process of major conversion the following items were removed: plating and stiffeners of the trunk deck together with equipment and constructions placed on it; longitudinal CL bulkhead; transverse bulkheads at 35, 169, 170 fr.; upper part of transverse bulkheads at 101 fr. (above main deck); fule tanks in auxiliary ER at 170-180 fr. PS; platform and plating in auxiliary ER at 170-180 fr.; all tanker systems.

Four cargo holds were organized; a plenty of works were fulfilled for: mounting of plating and stiffeners of the main deck in the area of inter-hold belt; mounting of transverse coamings of cargo holds; mounting of guiding rails and flanges of the hatch covers. Cargo holds are equipped by: watertight hatch covers; bilge system; CO2 fire extinguishing system; natural ventilation system; covers of entrance hatchways and ladders for cargo holds.

The fire main system has been equipped in the cargo zone for providing of supplying of 4 nozzles at pressure of 0.25 MPa at a crane, capable of being trained on any part of the cargo space when empty.
