The first tanker "Lachin" of the RST12C project built in Azerbaijan left the port of Baku heading for the port of Gebze with a cargo of diesel fuel

As the website of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) notes, on May 18, 2020, the first RST12C project Caspian product-chemical tanker of the new generation Lachin built in Azerbaijan left the port of Baku heading for the port of Kulevi - the port of Gebze with a cargo of diesel fuel.

The vessel was built by the Baku Shipyard.

RST12C prj. was developed by Marine Engineering Bureau.

According to the report, that the reposition of the "Lachin" project RST12C tanker is made in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, so that, along with maintaining the leading position of ASCO in the Caspian, reduce ASCO's dependence on one market by operating commercial vessels outside the Caspian Sea.

ASCO has taken another step in this direction. The company decided that the RST12C "Lachin" - the first tanker of national production, put into operation with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev last December, would operate in the Black and Mediterranean Seas.

With diesel fuel on board, the "Lachin" tanker departed for the first voyage from the port of Baku to the Georgian port of Kulevi. After passing along the Volga-Don canal through the internal waters of Russia, the vessel will reach the port of Kulevi, where, after reloading, will depart to Turkey. The cargo transported on the "Lachin" project tanker RST12C is intended for the Turkish port of Gebze.

The tanker of a new generation "Lachin" of the RST12C project with a length of 141 meters and a width of 16.9 meters will play an important role not only in strengthening Azerbaijan's position in international cargo transportation, but in presenting and promoting the country's flag in the world.

Specially noted that after a long break, ASCO's activity in international waters outside the Caspian Sea was restored in 2014 by purchasing dry cargo vessels of project 005RSD03 "Uzeyir Khadzhibeyli" and "Natavan" on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev.

The new generation tanker "Lachin" of the RST12C project will become the fifteenth vessel of the Shipping Company operating outside the Caspian Sea (eight of them are dry cargo vessels of the 005RSD03 project built by the Onega shipyard and two tankers of the RST27 project built by Krasnoe Sormovo).

New RST12C tanker has a boosted "Caspian" function:

• 7875 t deadweight at Caspian draught of 4.50 m (RST27 tanker has 7022 t deadweight), increased is 853 t;
• capacity of cargo tanks is foreseen for oil and oil products at Caspian Region; capacity is increased by trunk raising up to 9190 m³ (RST27 has 8100 m³), i.e. there is 1090 m³ increase.

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class notation is KM Ice1 R2-RSN(4.5) AUT1-ICS VCS ECO-S OMBO Oil tanker/Chemical tanker type 2 (ESP).

Like the other mixed river-sea tankers of the Marine Engineering Bureau, the RST12C vessels use full turned rudder propeller as a single control/movement mean, has a developed trunk, uses submersible pumps; there are no CL longitudinal bulkhead and framing within cargo tanks.

RST12C vessels satisfy to the dimensions of the Volga-Don Shipping Canal and the Volga-Baltic Way. The overall length is 141.00 m, width is 16.9 m, depth is 6.0 m, trunk height is 1.75 m. RST12C vessels are of tankers "Volga-Don Max" class.

While designing it was taken into account the special requirements of Russian and world oil companies, additional environmental restrictions of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping "ECO PROJECT" (ECO-S) class.

RST12C vessel is designed for transportation of crude oil and oil products with density of up to 1.015 t/m³, including gasoline, without restriction on the flash point, ensuring the carriage of goods with a temperature of 50°C, as well as chemical cargoes:

Methyl alcohol;

Simultaneously transportation of 2 types of cargo is provided.

The capacity of six cargo tanks and two slop tanks is 9190 m³, marine deadweight is 7875 t while draught is 4.54 m, river deadweight is with 5447 t, operational speed is 10.0 kn.

The cargo system is designed for simultaneous transportation of two types of cargo, cargo pumps are 6 x 200 m³/h. Two auxiliary steam boilers of 2.5 t/h capacity are installed.

Two medium-speed diesels (main engines) of 1200 kW each use heavy fuel oil with viscosity IFO380. There is 230 kW bow thruster.

Electrical plant consists of three 350 kW diesel-generators and emergency-staying 150 kW diesel-generator.
