Marine Engineering Bureau successfully develops Polar Code approval documents for multipurpose offshore vessel "MPV Everest"

The multipurpose offshore vessel "MPV Everest" with Arctic ice class Arc5 has been awarded a Polar vessel certificate.

According to the Australian Antarctic Department, the "MPV Everest" will be the only vessel engaged to work with polar stations in Antarctica under the auspices of Australia during the navigation period 2020-2021. "MPV Everest" is expected to arrive to the port of Hobart (Australia) in late November or early December and will later operate at Davis and Mawson stations.

To obtain a Polar Vessel Certificate, the Marine Engineering Bureau has developed documents:

• analysis of the vessel's eligibility for the Polar Code, including a List of Required Actions;
• polar Waters Operational Manual.

The analysis shows that "MPV Everest" meets the requirements of the Polar Code. The vessel is designed to operate in ice conditions as a Category B vessel. It is allowed to operate in polar waters in conditions of thin first-year ice up to 70 cm thick, which may contain inclusions of old ice. Maximum expected arrival time of rescue forces is 5 days, polar operating temperature is -30°C. The range of working draft in ice is 5.5 m to 8.7 m.

The "MPV Everest", in her class design, power and other parameters, is suitable for daily navigation in difficult ice conditions without the help of icebreakers.
