The training sailing vessel "Magura" of the project PV33 prepares to sail on her own from Turkey to Vladivostok

Anatoly Shtanko, founder and director of the Seven Oceans maritime training centre, told TASS that the "school under sail", which is being established at Admiral G.I. Nevelsky Maritime State University, will soon receive a training sailing vessel, the Magura (former Lady Catherine).

Two-masted kech sailing yacht "Magura" (MS N 503655) was re-equipped to class "0" sport sailing vessel (unlimited sailing) in accordance with the "Rules for Design, Construction, Repair and Maintenance of Sport Sailing Vessels" of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

A training sailing boat of the PV33 project was purchased for the "School under Sails" in Turkey.

The boat's passage will begin in October 2020 and is scheduled to arrive in Vladivostok in February 2021.

"The vessel has been purchased and the Russian Maritime and River Transport Agency has been tasked to start the transfer at the end of October, i.e. to leave Turkey and [follow] the course to Vladivostok. The route has been chosen via Panama Canal, i.e. across two oceans. Everyone knows that the area of Africa is now turbulent from the piracy point of view: <...> this route has been chosen so that no problems arise. <...> The expected arrival time is February," Shtanko said.

He noted that the vessel will be renamed "Slavyanka" when it is re-registered. The first expeditions involving schoolchildren, in which the sailing vessel will be involved, will take place in the summer of 2021.

The Seven Oceans Maritime Training Centre, with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund, is organising a children's diplomacy project, White Sails of Peace in Japan, during which teenagers will be able to go on an expedition across the Sea of Japan. The new sailboat will be involved in the crossing to Akita, Japan.

The PV33 project was designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The vessel is a steel sailing-motor yacht of two masts with ketch type sails, with a sloping bow and transom stern.

The vessel has the following main dimensions:

Overall length (including bowsprit) - 32.40 m;
Length between perpendiculars - 25.74 m;
Width - 7.20 m;
Height of boards from the gunwale - 3.20 m;
Height of a side taking into account ballast bulwark - 5.20 m;
Deadweight with allowance for ballast bulwark - 3.61 m;
Displacement at full-weight draught - 131 tons;
The area of the main sails is 495 m² (with gennaker 607 mm²);
Height of mainsail from CWL is 35.3m, bisan mast is 24.4m.

In addition to the sails, the propulsion engines are two 210 kW diesels, each powered by its own propeller.

The vessel's power plant consists of two auxiliary diesel generators, each with a capacity of 32.5 kW.

She has an unrestricted range of 2000 nautical miles under engine and unlimited range under sail. The vessel has already completed several round-the-world voyages.

Freshwater replenishment of the voyage is to be provided by a desalination reverse osmosis plant and two freshwater collection and preparation tanks installed in the MoD.

Controllability when approaching or leaving a berth or shore is ensured by rudder shifting, bow thruster and the ability to operate the propellers 'outwind'.

A crew of 19 is accommodated in 7 double and 1 quadruple cabin, with an additional berth in the aft double cabin. The superstructure accommodates a saloon and wheelhouse with all-round visibility.

The living areas, wheelhouse and caboose are air-conditioned.

Pollution prevention is ensured by the presence of oily water collection tanks, a closed sewage and domestic water system with collection tanks and a food waste shredder in the galley.

Radio and navigation equipment as well as supply corresponds to the required equipment for sports sailing vessels with navigation category "0". The vessel's radio and navigation equipment, as well as supplies, complies with the requirements of category "0" sports sailing vessels. A class A vessel's Universal Automatic Identification System (AIS) with GPS/GLONASS support is also provided. The two echo sounders are completely independent of each other.

External communication facilities consist of VHF and HF/HF radios with DSC, INMARSAT-C ship earth station, COSPAS-SARSAT satellite EPIRBs (one self-launched EPIRB, the other manually launched EPIRB stored in an emergency bag).
