Supply vessel of DCV47 prj. "Sosnovka-1" arrived in the Ust-Kamchatka area to provide transshipments during the repair of the ferry "Kapitan Drabkin"

According to the website of Kamchatka Territory, on October 19, 2020 the supply vessel of DCV47 project "Sosnovka-1", as well as vessels "Kamchatka-2" and "Orlan" arrived to Ust-Kamchatsky region to ensure uninterrupted crossing of Ozernaya channel during the repair of the ferry "Kapitan Drabkin".

The schedule of the replacement vessels will be the same as that of the ferry "Kapitan Drabkin", that is, five trips per day.

The Ministry of Transport added that the repair of the diesel-electric vessel "Kapitan Drabkin" will last until December 1.

As a reminder, cargo-passenger transportation will be provided by the barge "Kamchatka-2", it will be able to transport up to 20 passengers and 40 tons of various cargoes. The supply vessel of DCV47 project "Sosnovka-2" will transport cars.

During the off-season, as well as in case of increased passenger traffic, passenger voyages will be performed by the hovercraft "Orlan", it is capable of delivering up to 20 passengers at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

We should add that the ferry "Kapitan Drabkin" has been working on the crossing of the channel "Ozernaya" for forty years. The vessel is repaired every year, this year the repairs are planned to be completed on the first of December.

DCV47 vessels are assigned for transportation of general and dry bulk cargoes, containers on cargo deck, wheel and track vehicles (roll-on method); port roads unload and load cargoes; delivery these cargoes to unequipped shore with drainage ability on sand-gravel soil and supply horizontal delivered cargo unload with help of bow ramp or with help of cargo crane.

Vessels were being built in accordance with Federal purpose plan "Economical and social development of Far East and Transbaikal till 2013".

Importance of such self-propelled barges at Kamchatka region (and others northern coastal regions) for supplying the distant population places was clear even in the USSR period. Beginning from the 70-s of previous century more than 115 self-propelled barges were built, as follows: barges of "Vladimir Pashkin" type ("SRP", prj. 698), "SP" type, "SRP 150K-1" (prj.698o), "SPA-001" type (prj. 10250), "SPP-001" type (prj. 10251) y "Nikolay Permitin" type (prj. 16900). This moment there are 15 self-propelled barges at Kamchatka region under operation.

Mean work duration (mean age) of these vessels is of 30 years.

Further operation of these vessels is accomplished with increasing of shipping safety providing, big expenditures used for vessels maintenance and repairing. More over these vessels become obsolete and aren't assign for cargo operations with drainage ability on unequipped soil during tide.

For example, this year "Sosnovka-1" replaced the diesel-electric vessel "Kapitan Drabkin" built in 1971 at a year-round crossing across the Ozernaya channel between the village of Ust-Kamchatsk and the village of Krutoberegovo, which was under scheduled repair from June 7 to October 12.

The DCV47 concept, in addition of this type of vessel, transporting the usual general cargo and wheeled equipment, provides for much greater functionality required for supplying remote locations:

• the vessel is designed to be able to unload and load vessels, enter shallow river estuaries at high tide and dredge on sand and gravel at low tide. Hull of vessel has very strong construction for safe cargo operations during draining, reinforced double bottom with height 0.8 m, double sides with breadth 1.725 m (B/5) and enough number of side and side bulkheads which provide one-draught unsinkability. The operation of the vessel's power plant is ensured by cooling the diesel generators by a special seawater system (transitional mode) and by an air-cooled emergency standby diesel generator;
• carriage of bulk cargo (including coal for wintering) with the possibility of unloading both by vessel crane equipped with a grapple and onshore facilities;
• transportation of international standard containers in in-river transhipment and long-haul voyages;
• transportation of heavy wheeled vehicles (up to 15 t axle load) and crawler vehicles up to 60 t with roll-on/roll-off loading/unloading via the bow ramp with prepared shore side support (without preparation with up to 10 t axle load and crawler vehicles up to 30 t);
• delivery of cargo to unequipped shore and provision for horizontal unloading of delivered cargo by bow ramp, vessel cargo crane or shore-based facilities, including truck cranes capable of approaching the vessel at low tide (the cargo area guardrail is designed to collapse for crane boom operation at maximum outreach).

These are offshore roll-on roll-off self-propelled barges with a carrying capacity of 250 tons.

They have the following characteristics:

Overall length - 42.60 m;
Length between perpendiculars - 38.40 m;
Overall width - approx. 8.82 m;
Width - 8.60 m;
LHVL draft - 2.0 metres;
Speed at full throttle - 9 knots;
Main engines capacity - 2 x 256 kW;
Allowed load on cargo deck - 15 tons per axle of vehicles or weight of caterpillar vehicles up to 60 tons;
Container capacity, TEU - 12 units;
Cargo crane - 7.3 t (outreach 20 m).

Vessel's Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class is of KM Ice 2 R1 AUT3 OMBO.
