We are already building green vessels - from words to deeds

2020 year. Launching of the first CNF19M " Marshal Rokossovsky" project LNG-powered railway ferry for Rosmoport.

This was reported by the General Director of the Marine Engineering Bureau, Professor Gennady Egorov during the IV Conference "LNG-Fleet, LNG-Bunkering and Other Alternatives" organized by "PortNews".

We are witnessing a noticeable activation of the "green" trend in the domestic shipbuilding and shipping industry. Now Sovcomflot, the industry leader, is being joined by its colleagues - Rosmorport, GTLK, Vodohod, Zelenodolsky Plant, and Morsvyazavtomatika.

Launched on August 21, 2020, the lead 200-meter long, Arc4 ice-classed CNF19M project LNG ferry is the first of two new single-type 80-car ferries of Rosmorport for the Ust-Luga-Baltiysk line. With accommodation of gas tanks with LNG stock for two round trips in the hold in the middle part at a safe distance from the superstructure and from the engine room, with a double bottom and double sides, with the possibility of gas bunkering simultaneously from four trains by means of a ship buster module, and also from a bunkering vessel and from the coastal LNG bunker-base. During movement, all energy consumption goes to LNG (due to the availability of shaft sinks).

Natural gas is stored in liquefied form at temperature -162°C at a pressure of 1.0 MPa in two special cryogenic tank of type C with vacuum insulation, which provides storage time until the operation of a safety valve at least 39 days, capacity of 300 cubic meters each.

Therefore, it is no longer enough to talk only about prospects and plans, the future is already in one form or another beginning to take on quite visible contours in the form of very real vessels.
