"Leasing Deal of the Year 2020" - Volga Group leasing the RSD20 dry cargo vessel "Sviatoy Nikolai" from Alfa-Leasing

As reported by the PortNews IA website, on 17 December 2020, a contract between Alfa-Leasing and Volga Group for the supply of a dry cargo vessel of the RSD20 project won the nomination "Leasing Deal of the Year in the Shipbuilding segment" as a result of a vote by an independent jury.

The event took place during the award ceremony for the national leasing award 'Leasing Deal of the Year 2020'.

The RSD20 project vessel, named "Sviatoy Nikolai", will receive the Russian flag and will be used by the company to transport food cargo from ports in Russia's single deepwater system to ports in countries in the Black Sea and Mediterranean basins.

Financing for the deal was provided by Alfa Bank and VSK Insurance House was the insurer under the contract.

"This level of operation requires a high level of expertise and efficiency, both from the leasing company and the financing bank, as well as from the client himself," said Alexander Ankushin, project manager at Alfa Leasing Group.

According to Igor Gaponov, owner of the Volga shipping company, today leasing is "the only chance to renew the fleet, to increase the volume of the fleet, as it is all quite expensive".

The event took place online and was broadcast on the Leasing Federation's YouTube video channel.

Project RSD20 is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The vessel is assigned for transportation of general, bulk, scrap, grain, coal, timber, heavy and large-sized cargoes, 8'.5 and 9' ISO containers, danger-ous goods of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 classes of IMDG Code and cargoes of category B of BC Code. Sailing regions are Mediterranean, Caspian, Black, Baltic, White, and North Seas.

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class of the project is of KM Ice 2 R2 AUT1. The project satisfies all the requirements of international conventions which were actual at the moment of laying down of the vessel's keel.

Vessel of RSD20 prj. belongs to so-called "Volga-Don Max" type due to MEB internal classification. She has maximum possible dimensions for Volga-Don canal.

Unlike earlier vessels of this class of project, "Sviatoi Nikolai" is single-shaft (but with three rudders).

Besides, new project has higher standard of hull strength (close to RSD19 prj), increased hull members thickness and enough high ice category, that decrease a bit cargo-lifting capacity in river, but makes the vessel more effective during operation in sea.

With characterized draught of 3.6 m in Volga-Don canal deadweight is about 4000 tons, maximum deadweight in the sea while draught of 4.80 m is of 6716 tons.

Vessel's overall length is of 139.22 m, overall breadth is of 16.50 m, depth is of 6.20 m.

Summarized capacity of cargo holds is of 11400 cub. m, total container capacity is of 262 TEU, while holds' container capacity is of 192 TEU.

All holds are box-shaped, smooth-wall, convenient for carrying out the freight works and placing a cargo without shifting. The cargo holds' sizes are of 33.6 x 13.04 (hold Nos. 1,3), 32.0 x 13.04 m (hold No.2), with the height of 8.95 m.

Cargo holds are equipped with sectional hatch covers of folding type with possibility of 100% opening.

Medium-speed diesel (main engine) of 1800 kWt use heavy fuel oil with viscosity of IFO380.

Modern computing methods of hydrodynamics were used during vessel designing that allowed to find an optimum combination of propulsion-rudder system elements and hull forms. Defined combination provides high running qualities of the vessel.

"Sviatoy Nikolai" cruising speed was of 11.6 kn during running test (ballast operation regime).

Vessel's speed is 10 kn while draught at sea is of 4.8 m and MCR is of 90%.

Movement and manoeuvrability of the vessel is provided by single fixed-pitch propeller in nozzle with diameter of 2600 mm, and three rudders (one balanced double-seat rudder is mounted in CL, two balanced hanged rudders are mounted by sides) and bow thruster.

Sea sailing autonomy is of 20 day.

Heavy fuel stores are placed in deep-tanks in area of the ER fore bulkhead, separated from outside water by double bottom and double sides.

Crew consists of 12 persons (16 places).

Designed vessel hull's life term is of 24 years. The double bottom is designed for distributed load intensity of 10.0 tons per sq. m, and also allows using a grabber.

Vessel's "Sviatoy Nikolai" (building No. is of 18019) keel was laid down on 28.09.2007. she was launched on 02.03.09 and was put into operation on 12.10.09.
