DCV36 prj. dry cargo vessels "Onyx" and "Charoit" delivered oversized equipment for the construction of an offshore transhipment terminal in Ust-Luga

According to the press service of the shipping company, on January 25, 2021 multipurpose (having a special long hold for oversize cargo transportation) dry-cargo vessels of Volga Shipping Company of DCV36 project "Onyx" and "Charoit" completed delivery of oversize equipment for construction of a sea transshipment terminal.

The DCV36 was designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

Volga Shipping Company and Volgo-Baltik Logistics (a daughter company of Volga Shipping Company) completed a project of delivering oversized equipment for the construction of a multifunctional marine transhipment terminal for the transhipment of mineral fertilisers, bulk and general cargo in the Leningrad Region.

The project of transportation of cargo from Kaliningrad to the port of Ust-Luga started at the beginning of January and was successfully completed on 25 January 2021. Two multi-purpose dry cargo vessels of the Volga Shipping Company's unrestricted DCV36 project Onyx and Charoit delivered oversized equipment: two transition galleries (65-70 metres long) and four cargo booms (53 metres long). Each piece weighed 155 tonnes and was 9 metres high. The total amount of long-legged equipment transported was around 1.000 tonnes.

The transportation of oversized long-length cargo by Volgo-Baltik Logistic specialists, together with engineers from Central Research and Design Institute of the Maritime Fleet, Trans Engineering Company and Digital Marine Technologies, was preceded by several months of joint work to select different types of vessels. The preparation process included engineering calculations, development of several projects for transportation, accommodation, securing, and crane loading and unloading of oversized and heavy equipment. An effective solution for accommodating voluminous long-length cargo on two Volga Shipping Company vessels was implemented with the help of Digital Marine Technology, applying unique technology used on specialised offshore vessels engaged in project shipments.

The DCV36 project dry cargo vessel "Onyx" was delivered on 28.06.12, "Charoit" on 25.10.12.

The builder is Qingdao Hyundai Shipbuilding Co. (Qingdao, China).

The DCV36 project is originally a seagoing vessel of unlimited range with appropriate strength reserves, hull link strength and main propulsion power.

The DCV36 project is clearly innovative, as it is the first to achieve a deadweight over 5.000 tonnes for a modern dry bulk single-deck vessel with an estimated length of up to 85 metres.

The DCV36 project vessels are designed for sea transportation of general and bulk cargoes, including 20- and 40-foot international standard containers up to 9.5 feet high (including some of them reefers), metal, grain, timber, coal, bulky and heavy cargoes, 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 class and Annex B of the BC Code.

The overall length of the vessel is 89.96 metres, her design length is 84.89 metres, width is 14.5 metres, depth is 7.5 metres, draft is 6.40 metres, deadweight at this draft is 5039 tonnes.

The cargo hold is box-shaped, smooth-walled, and convenient for cargo handling and stowage without shifting. The dimensions of the cargo hold are 60.0 x 11.50 x 9.20 m, which guarantees accommodation of three tiers of containers up to 9.5 ft high, and also provides a possibility of carrying large-size non-standard cargo items. The cargo hold has a capacity of 6.230 cubic metres.

The second floor is designed for a distributed load intensity of 14.0 t/m² and also for grapple operation.

The hull is designed for Ice3 ice category, which provides for year-round navigation in the Baltic and White Seas. The hull's contours, ice-keeping capacity, hull strength and main engine power are fully compliant with the new requirements of the Finnish-Swedish Ice Regulations.
