About the KSP02 project "Arktur" lead crab processor vessel for the NWSC in a Baird Maritime publication

On 27 May 2021, Baird Maritime publishes an article on its website about the KSP02 project's lead crab-processor vessel "Arktur".

Baird Maritime is one of the world's leading maritime publishers. Founder of the renowned maritime news portal BairdMaritime.com, Work Boat World, Fishing Boat World, Ship World, Ausmarine and Commercial Mariner magazines as well as the leading ship broking platforms WorkBoatWorld.com and ShipWorld.com.

The article reports that the crab vessel was transferred by Turkish companies EPIC Denizcilik and OZATA Shipyard to Northwest Shipping Company, which is part of the Northwest Fishery Consortium group.

The Arcturus Project KSP02 crabber-processor was built on the basis of an existing supply vessel.

The project documentation (in full) was developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The construction of two more crab-processor vessels of the KSP02 project for the Northwest Shipping Company is underway.

The main purpose of the Crab Processor Prj. KSP02:

• Fishing for Kamchatka and Opilio crab with cone, trapezoidal and rectangular traps;
• processing of caught crab into cooked and frozen products with subsequent storage in the hold;
• storage of processed products in the cargo hold and delivery of processed products at sea to the receiving and transporting refrigerated vessels with both sides mooring by means of cargo booms using the "on the phone" method in sea waves up to 4 points.

The main types of crab harvested are Kamchatka crab and Opilio crab (snow crab), as well as other varieties of crab.

After processing and freezing the catch, the products are stored in a freezer hold with a capacity of about 1,750 cubic metres.

The vessel has the following characteristics:

Overall length - 73.44 m;
Width - 16.60 m;
Height to main deck - 7,60 m;
Deadweight - 2548 tons;
Design speed of the vessel - 12 knots.

Class of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping - KM AUT1 (REF) BWM(T) TMS Fishing vessel.

The vessel is expected to operate in the Northern Fisheries Basin, the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea.

The strength of the hull and mast structures meets the RS requirements for vessels moored at sea in rough seas up to and including 4 points.

The crab-processing facility provides raw product intake to the sorting work area, manual sorting, processing cooking, freezing and storage of crab. The processing capacity is 30 tpd for snow crab and 60 tpd for red king crab. The capacity of the finished frozen products is 20 tpd for snow crab and 40 tpd for red king crab.

There is a bait hold and rooms for storing containers and salt.

The factory allows the production of boiled frozen brine-frozen limbs.

An electro-hydraulic crane with three independent booms is installed on the vessel for the sampling unit when working with single traps; for the midway unit of the main power sampling unit when working with orders and for lifting traps from overboard and placing them on the trap receiving table.

Two auxiliary electro-hydraulic slewing cargo cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 1.0 tonne on the first layer of the winch drum at a maximum outreach of 20 metres and 3.0 tonne at 10 metres with a local and radio remote control station are used for handling the traps, unloading the products and loading the bait in the port.

Two 0.99-tonne stern booms are installed for offshore transshipment of ready products on both sides with an auxiliary portal.

The freezer hold has been fully mechanized in the freezer compartment, where stowage and transshipment of products is carried out.

The main power source used in the vessel's power plant is a 440V three-phase alternating current, 60Hz with automatic voltage regulation, driven by a reducer from the main engine.

The vessel's power plant has two 440V AC three-phase synchronous generators with 60 Hz frequency as an auxiliary power source.

The vessel power plant is designed for the following modes of operation:

• transit to the fishing area;
• transit from the fishing area;
• fishing;
• firefighting;
• port mooring;
• emergency.

Accommodation for 40 crew members is provided in comfortable cabins, the vessel has a wardroom with a separate self-service area, as well as all necessary medical, sanitary and hygienic facilities, as required by the Sanitary Regulations for Fishing Fleet Vessels.

The vessel is equipped with radio and navigation equipment in accordance with her class and intended navigation area, as well as navigation and fishing equipment.
