About the operation of the DCV47 Project "Sosnovka" self-propelled seagoing barges in Kamchatka

According to KamchatTransFlot's website, the DCV47 Sosnovka self-propelled seagoing barges will be used this summer for offshore unloading of coal at Manilah, Palan and Nikolskoye.

According to Ivan Kapralov, general director of Kamchattransflot, a total of over 18,000 tons of coal will be unloaded under this contract. "The work will involve three DCV47 self-propelled barges, Sosnovka, which are designed for offshore unloading. In fact, these vessels can show their profitability at such works, - said Ivan Kapralov. - Unloading is expected to start at the end of May or in June. The supplier plans to deliver the entire annual batch of coal to the port points in two voyages. We have all equipment and specialists ready to perform the work".

"Kamchattransflot plans to deliver the necessary cargo to Palana, Manily and Nikolskoye during these voyages.

One more self-propelled barge "Sosnovka-3" of DCV47 project will substitute "Kapitan Drabkin" diesel-electric barge, built in 1971, which will be under repair scheduled from June 3, at the year-round crossing via Ozernaya channel between Ust-Kamchatsk village and Krutoberegovo village.

Vessels of DCV47 project are designed for transportation of general, bulk, container cargoes on cargo deck, wheeled and tracked equipment by roll-on method, raid unloading and loading of vessels, delivery of these cargoes onto unequipped shore with possibility of drying on sand-gravel soil and providing horizontal discharge of delivered cargoes by means of bow ramp or by vessel cargo crane. The 2m draught also makes it possible to enter some of the peninsula's rivers.

They were built in accordance with the Federal Target Programme "Economic and Social Development of the Far East and Trans-Baikal Region until 2013".

The importance of having such self-propelled barges in Kamchatka (and other northern coastal regions) for supplying remote settlements was understood back in Soviet times. Since the seventies of the last century more than 115 self-propelled barges Vladimir Pashkin ("SRP", project 698), type "SP", type "SRP-150K-1" (project 698P), type "SPA-001" (project 10250), type "SPP-001" (project 10251) and type "Nikolay Permitin" (project 16900) have been constructed.

The DCV47 concept, in addition of this type of vessel, transporting the usual general cargo and wheeled equipment, provides for much greater functionality required for supplying remote locations:

• the vessel is designed to be able to unload and load vessels, enter shallow river estuaries at high tide and dredge on sand and gravel at low tide. Hull of vessel has very strong construction for safe cargo operations during draining, reinforced double bottom with height 0.8m, double sides with breadth 1.725m (B/5) and enough number of side and side bulkheads which provide one-draught unsinkability. The operation of the vessel's power plant is ensured by cooling the diesel generators by a special seawater system (transitional mode) and by an air-cooled emergency standby diesel generator;
• carriage of bulk cargo (including coal for wintering) with the possibility of unloading both by vessel crane equipped with a grapple and onshore facilities;
• transportation of international standard containers in in-river transhipment and long-haul voyages;
• transportation of heavy wheeled vehicles (up to 15 t axle load) and crawler vehicles up to 60 t with roll-on/roll-off loading/unloading via the bow ramp with prepared shore side support (without preparation with up to 10 t axle load and crawler vehicles up to 30 t);
• delivery of cargo to unequipped shore and provision for horizontal unloading of delivered cargo by bow ramp, vessel cargo crane or shore-based facilities, including truck cranes capable of approaching the vessel at low tide (the cargo area guardrail is designed to collapse for crane boom operation at maximum outreach).

These are offshore roll-on roll-off self-propelled barges with a carrying capacity of 250 tons.

They have the following characteristics:

Overall length - 42.60 m;
Length between perpendiculars - 38.40 m;
Overall width - approx. 8.82 m;
Width - 8,60 m;
LHVL draft - 2,0 metres;
Speed at full throttle - 9 knots;
Main engines capacity - 2 x 256 kW;
Allowed load on cargo deck - 15 tons per axle of vehicles or weight of caterpillar vehicles up to 60 tons;
Container capacity, TEU - 12 units;
Cargo crane - 7.3 t (outreach 20 m).

Vessel's Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class is of KM Ice 2 R1 AUT3 OMBO.
