The 4.942-tonne dry cargo vessel "Blagovest", modified from a Volgoneft tanker under the RSD26 project, has started its maiden voyage

On 1 September 2021, the 4.942-tonne dry cargo vessel Volgo-Don Max, modified from a Volgoneft tanker under the RSD26 project, departed for its maiden voyage.

This is the first vessel to be modified to the RSD26 design.

The modifications were carried out by the Kriushinsky shipyard (Ulyanovsk region).

The RSD26 conversion project was designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The purpose of the converted dry cargo vessel of RSD26 project is to carry general and bulk cargoes, including grain, mineral fertilizers, sulphur (hazardous cargo class 4.1) and coal, metal in holds, general and timber cargoes on hatch covers.

Bulk cargo is loaded and unloaded with a grapple.

She is a steel, single-deck, twin-screw cargo vessel, without saddles, with double bottom, double sides, with tank and yute, with engine room and deckhouses located aft, with four cargo holds, with removable type hatch closures, with bow thruster.

The RSD26 project dry cargo vessel has been converted to the Russian River Register class O-PR 2.0.

The vessel's dimensions are: length x width x height - 132.6 m x 16.90 m x 5.50 m.

Summer waterline draught is 3.527 m.

Sailing area: internal waterways of Russian Federation with the wave height h3% not more than 2.0 m, corresponding to "O" class; coastal sea areas of "O-PR 2,0" class with the wave height h3% limitation of 2.0 m without international voyages. The vessel may operate in the GMDSS A2 maritime area.

Deadweight at 3.527 m in the sea - 4942 tonnes, at 3.6 m in the river - 4923 tonnes.

Hold capacity of 4 holds is 6411 cub.m (1st hold is 1254 cub.m, 2nd to 4th holds are 1719 cub.m each). Hold width is 13.2 m, hatch opening width is 9.9 m.

Allowable load on the double bottom is 5.9 t/sq.m.

Hatch covers are designed to carry a minimum load as required by the RRR Regulations for class "O-RR" (5.40 kPa) and also to carry a load of up to 1 tonne/sq.m equally distributed on them. The covers are fixed to the coamings in the travelling direction by means of manual closing devices. The lids are secured in the open position with turnbuckles.

Each section is opened and closed with a special gantry crane. The gantry crane is mounted in the area of the forward bulkhead of the living space.

The vessel has two 736 kW main engines, fixed pitch propellers, 2 outboard balancer rudders. The bow thruster is 70 kW.

Operational speed - 20 km/h, autonomy - 7 days.

The hull has a double bottom, double sides, 0.6V wide upper deck, continuous longitudinal coamings of 1.5 m high cargo hatches.

Crew / seats - 12 / 23 people.

In the process of major conversion, were removed:

• decking and main deck set in the cargo hatch cut-out areas;
• longitudinal bulkhead in the DP;
• decking of the second bottom with the adjoining set at the width of the cargo hatches;
• expansion shafts of cargo tanks;
• crossing bridge, cargo booms to support the hoses around the manifolds and all tanker systems.

After the installation of second bottom decking with sloping plates at the longitudinal bulkheads of the double sides, decking and main deck set in the area of the inter-hatch coamings, continuous longitudinal and transverse cargo hold coamings, reinforcing strips along the walls of the cargo hold coamings, The main deck set in the area of the interdeck coamings and continuous transverse cargo hold coamings reinforcing strips on the cargo hold coamings walls, and the cargo hold guide rails and hatch flange flanges formed four cargo holds equipped with watertight hatch closures, drying system, convergent hatch covers and cargo hold access ladders.
