The second trawler-processor for NWSC the KMT01 "Norwegian Sea" project, built by the Vyborg Shipyard, has entered sea trials

According to Vyborg Shipyard's Press Service, the second large stern freezer trawler of KMT01 project "Norwegian Sea" (construction number 936) entered the Baltic Sea on 08 August 2021 for sea trials.
 
The builder is Vyborg Shipyard (general director Alexander Solovyov).
 
The customer is Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet (part of NWSC).
 
A total of four trawlers of the KMT01 project have been ordered for Vyborg Shipyard. The lead ship, Barents Sea, will be handed over in September 2020.
 
The lead large-capacity trawler of the KMT01 project, Barents Sea, has been named the best trawler-processor (factory) of 2020 by Baird Maritime.

The main purpose of the vessel: bottom trawling fishing with on-board processing of the catch and production of frozen products.
 
The daily output of frozen products is 100 tonnes, 60 tonnes of fish meal and fish oil, 5.000 cans of preserves and 40 tonnes of fillets.
 
The main fish species harvested are cod and haddock, as well as sea bass and wolffish.
 
Main types of products:
 
• decapitated and gutted fish;
• fillets;
• caviar;
• cod liver;
• fish meal;
• fish oil.
 
After processing and freezing, the catch is stored in a freezing hold with a capacity of about 2500 cubic meters. Fishmeal is stored in a separate hold with a capacity of 350 cubic meters.
 
The vessel is equipped to handle a single trawl and two trawls simultaneously.
 
The vessel has the following characteristics:
 
Overall length - about 86 m;
Breadth - 17.0 m;
Depth at main deck- 6.75 m;
Depth at trawl deck- 10.1 m;
Maximum stern draft - 8.9 m.
 
Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping class notation is - KM Ice3 AUT1 (REF) Fishing Vessel.
 
The vessel is expected to operate in the North Atlantic, the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Greenland Sea.
 
The design speed of 15 knots is provided by a single 6.000 kW main engine running on the propeller shaft in a non-rotating nozzle.
 
Controllability, including when operating two trawls at the same time, is provided by a single Becker rudder with flap.
 
An 850 kW bow thruster is provided to improve controllability at low speeds.
 
Operation of the vessel's power plant is provided by two diesel generators of 900 kW and 500 kW, as well as a shaft generator of 3.200 kW. In addition, an ADG of approximately 116 kW is provided.
 
The hull and superstructure are of steel, the wheelhouse is of aluminium alloy. To ensure corrosion protection, in addition to paint and varnish materials, cathodic protection of the underwater part of the hull is provided, as well as zinc spraying of external surfaces of structures exposed to aggressive environment.
 
A stern crane with a lifting capacity of 6 t and an outreach of 15 m is available for fishing operations. For unloading work in port there is a crane in the middle part of the vessel with a lifting capacity of 3 t at 14 m outreach and a crane in the bow of the vessel with a lifting capacity of 2.5 t at 8 m outreach.
 
Fishing equipment (bottom trawling systems), as well as anchor mooring gear, are supplied complete with an automated control system.
 
The equipment of the fish processing plant consists of various types of filleting machines with a capacity of 40 tons per day, beheading and gutting machines as well as equipment for fish transport, sorting, fillet sorting, fish storage tanks, weighing tables, packing tables, etc., with a capacity of 100 tons of finished fresh-frozen products per day.
 
There will be a canning facility for the production of canned cod liver and caviar, as well as a fish milling facility with a capacity of 60 tonnes of finished product per day in fishmeal and fish oil.
 
Accommodation for 49 crew members is provided in comfortable single and double cabins, the vessel has a wardroom with a separate self-service area, as well as all necessary medical, sanitary and hygienic facilities, in accordance with the Sanitary Regulations for fishing fleet vessels. In addition, the vessel has a sports complex comprising a gym and a sauna.
 
A passive type stabiliser is also provided to ensure crew comfort when the vessel is not fully loaded. Diesel oil is used as the fluid in the system.
 
The vessel is equipped with radio and navigation equipment in accordance with her class and intended navigation area, as well as a set of specialised fishing equipment.
 
The keel of the lead vessel of the project KMT01 "Barents Sea", construction number 935 was laid down on 31.05.17. Launched on 05.12.18. Completed on 08.09.20.
The keel of the second vessel "Norwegian Sea", construction number 936 was laid down on 26.01.18. She was launched on 17.05.19.
The keel of the third vessel "White Sea", construction number 937 was laid down on 25.05.18. Launched on 06.02.20.
The keel of the fourth vessel, "Kara Sea", construction number 938, was laid down on 20.12.18.
