Keel of the lead multipurpose RSD71 single-hold dry-cargo vessel "Konstruktor Egorov" with 7173 DWT, was laid down for the Volga Shipping Company

On 21.10.21 the keel of the lead multipurpose RSD71 single-hold dry-cargo vessel "Konstruktor Egorov" with 7173 t deadweight was laid down for the Volga Shipping Company (General Director Yuri Borisovich Gilts) with a hold length record for mixed navigation vessels of 83.85 m, which meets the increased environmental requirements of IMO TIER III (DE -Tier III) for air emissions.

The vessel is named in honor of the founder of the Marine Engineering Bureau - professor, doctor of technical sciences, ideologist of domestic shipbuilding, Egorov Gennady Vyacheslavovich, who passed away on 30.05.21.

Customer is JSC "Shipping company " Volga Shipping Company ".

The RSD59 prj. was designed by Marine Engineering Bureau.

In total, Oka Shipyard is currently planning to build 4 RSD71 vessels.

Vessels of the series can be operated for transportations of general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 classes of IMDG Code and cargoes of category B of IMSBC Code. Sailing regions are Mediterranean, Caspian, Black, Baltic, White, North Seas, including voyages around Europe and to Irish Sea in winter.

The new RSD71 dry-cargo vessel is the development of the largest series of "super-full" vessels in the post-Soviet shipbuilding industry today with a record for mixed RSD59 navigation vessels with 5340 t river deadweight (46 vessels were built for shipping companies "Pola Rise", "Idel", "Petrotrans", "Astrol", "Alfa", 17 vessels under construction).

Vessels of the RSD71 project are designed to operate in ports with a quay length of 120 meters.

At the same time, the RSD71 retained all the advantages of the RSD59 project:

• the existence of a long L = 83.85 m hold (RSD59 vessel has L = 77,35 m cargo hold ) that allows transportation of oversized and heavy cargo;
• the hold's height is increased up to 9000 mm. Such height allows to load 9'6'' containers ("high cube containers"), 3 ones in single stack;
• removable type hatch covers are installed. Opening and closing of each section is operated with the help of a special frame crane, which is located in the area of the front bulkhead of the residential superstructure;
• movement and controllability are provided by two rudder propeller units (better maneuverability in the narrow waters, more cargo space due to the reduction of size of engine room).

The project is designed for a class notation KM Ice2 (hull; machinery) R2 AUT1-ICS LI BWM(T) DG (bulk, pack) DE-Tier III A-Thruster(M) General dry cargo ship of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and meets all the requirements of international conventions acted at the moment of the vessel's keel laying, including - increased environmental requirements IMO TIER III (DE-Tier III) for emissions into the atmosphere.

For marine engines, in accordance with the International Convention MARPOL, since 2000, they have been limiting the emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) into the atmosphere. For ships operating in IMO emission control zones, which are relevant for vessels of limited navigation areas and mixed river-sea navigation, for example, in the Baltic and North Seas and laid down from January 1, 2021, the new TIER III standard came into force.

To meet its strict enough requirements on the vessels of the RSD71 project of the Oka shipyard, newly built for SLTC, an exhaust gas cleaning system was used to reduce NOx emissions, based on the principle of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx). The SCR system reduces the level of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas from the engine using catalytic elements and a reagent. During the process, a reagent in the form of an aqueous urea solution is injected into the exhaust gas stream. The water from the urea solution evaporates when it is injected into the hot exhaust gas.

The nitrogen obtained in this way is released into the atmosphere, and the water is cooled and goes overboard.

RSD71 draught of 3.60 m, river deadweight is 4395 t; the largest marine deadweight for draught 4.90 m is 7173 t.

The maximum length is 119.60 m, the overall width is 16.98 m, depth is 6.00 m.

The capacity of cargo holds is 9063 cubic m. Both cargo holds are box-shaped, smooth-walled, and convenient at cargo operations and placing the goods without stowage.

Their dimensions are 83.85 x 12.25 x 9.0 m.

The operating speed is 10.7 knots.

Two medium-speed diesels (main engine) of 1180 kW each use heavy fuel oil with viscosity of IFO380 Heavy fuel stores are placed in deep-tanks in area of the ER fore bulkhead, separated from outside water by double bottom and double sides.

Sea sailing autonomy is 20 day. Crew consists of 11 people, total places onboard are 14. Sanitary and pilot cabins are provided.

Designed vessel hull's life term is 25 years.

The double bottom is designed for distributed load with intensity of 12 tons per square meter, and also allows to use 16 t bucket grab.

Keel of the RSD71 lead vessel (at Oka Shipyard) " Konstruktor Egorov" was laid down on 21.10.21.
