Volga Shipping Company, including new dry cargo vessels of RSD44 and RSD49 projects, transported 8.2 mln. tons of cargo by inland waterways

According to the press-service of Volga Shipping Company, during navigation period of 2021 JSC "Volga Shipping Company" (general director - Yury Gilz) including new dry-cargo vessels of "Heroes of Stalingrad" and "Neva-Leader" RSD44 project had transported 8.2 million tons of cargo through inland waterways of Russia.

Crushed stone products accounted for the largest share in the total volume of river shipments.

In the navigation season of 2021 motor vessels and push-pull trains of Volga Shipping Company carried 2.36 mln tons (about 30% of the total) of macadam products, 2.3 mln tons (28%) of cereals, 1 mln tons (12%) of metal, 0.9 mln tons (11%) of gravel, over 1 mln tons of other bulk cargoes (salt, sulfur, granulated sand, fertilizers, etc). Besides, the inland fleet transported 481 thousand tons of fuel oil.

Grain, metal, granulated sulfur, and oil products were traditionally the main export cargoes delivered by the company's vessels during the navigation period to transshipment points in the southern and northern parts of the UGS of European Russia.

During this year's navigation season Volga Shipping vessels operated throughout the European part of Russia: in the North-Western, Central, Volga, Azov-Don, Kamsky basins with access to the coastal waters of the Baltic and Black Seas. More than 200 units of the river dry cargo and liquid cargo fleet were involved in the transportation of cargo through the Russian Far East.

At present, the river fleet is scheduled for inter-navigation repairs, which will be carried out at the fleet maintenance bases of the shipping company and shipyards.

Also more than 80 dry-cargo ships and tankers of Volga Shipping Company all-year-round navigation continue transportations on international routes. All in all, the shipping company transported 14.7 million tons of bulk, general, project and liquid cargoes in 2021 according to the results of 10 months.

The lead dry cargo vessel of the RSD44 project, "Kapitan Ruzmankin" was put into service in May 2011, the tenth vessel - "Kapitan Kanatov" - in April 2012. The decision to name the vessels after the captains of Volga Shipping Company who died in the Battle of Stalingrad was taken in the year of the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In 2012, the year of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943), all 10 vessels named after the heroes of the riverboats were already working to transport goods along the rivers and lakes of Russia.

The deadweight of the RSD44 project vessel with a draught of 3.60 m in the river is about 5543 tons, and with a draught of 3.53 m in the sea - 5562 tons. RSD44 deadweight in 3.60 m river draft is about 100 tons more than RSD59, and cost in construction is less (they are lighter in weight and simpler in class requirements).

RSD44 has only 5.4 m overhead clearance in ballast (even less in cargo), which will allow it, unlike all the others, to pass under the bridges over the Neva River and Rostov Railway Bridge without opening them. As a result, the vessel will save time on waiting in line for the opening of the bridges, which is up to 20 days per navigation.

The lead RSD49 vessel "Neva-Leader 1" was accepted for operation on 26.11.12, the seventh one "Neva-Leader 7" was accepted for operation on 23.12.13.

The construction plant is the Nevsky Shipyard.

RSD49 prj. is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

Vessels of RSD44 project according to the classification accepted in the Bureau belong to "Volgo-Don Max" class and have the maximum possible dimensions for VDSC. Vessels of the series can be used for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and oversized cargoes, dangerous goods of classes 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 of IMDG Code and the Appendix B of the BC Code in the Caspian Sea as well as in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, White Sea, North Sea including routes around Europe and to the Irish Sea in winter.

Feature of the vessel (unlike all other projects of "Volgo-Don Max" class created by Marine Engineering Bureau) is a large average hold of 52.0 m length, which allows you to carry in direct voyages Europe-Caspian oversized project cargoes, which should significantly affect the total financial result of the work.

Vessel was designed for Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class notation of KM Ice2 R2 AUT1-C.

With characterized draught of 3.6 m in Volga-Don canal deadweight is about 4520 tons, maximal deadweight in the sea with draught of 4.70 m is of 7143 tons. Overall length is of 139.95 m, overall breadth is of 16.70 m, breadth without side fenders is of 16.50 m, depth is of 6.00 m. Summarized capacity of cargo holds is of 10920 cub. m.
