RSD28 project modernization of the "Bug" dry cargo vessel of mixed navigation type is in progress

According to the site Nikolaev - City of Shipbuilders, at the shipyard "Ocean" the dry-cargo vessel of the project 17620, type "Bug", construction number 130, was lifted from the water for modernization and completion on January 21. On January, 22 the raised vessel was rolled out from the floating dock. The production of the cylindrical insert blocks started at the shipyard in summer 2021.

The RSD28 modernization project was developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

The main task of the vessel lengthening by 16.8 m RSD28 project was to increase deadweight at lower draughts (3.8-4.5 m), which are usual for Azov Sea ports. After modernization the vessel according to the classification accepted in the Bureau belongs to "Azov max" class.

The weight of the insert, together with the transverse bulkhead and hatch covers of the newly organized hold, is 270 tons.

The deadweight will increase by 897 tons to 5902 tons when the draught is 4.20 meters at sea from 5005 tons when the draught is 3.60 meters, to 4405 tons from 3705 tons by 700 tons when the draught is in the river.

The deadweight with a 4.71 meter summer waterline draft will be 7.046 tons (an increase of 746 tons compared to the deadweight of 6.300 tons with a 4.86 meter summer waterline draft of the original vessel).

After modernization according to the RSD28 project, the vessel will get the RS class: KM Ice2 (hull; machinery) R2-RSN(4,5) AUT1 BWM(T) DG(bulk; pack).

The overall length of the vessel after the modernization will be 141.98 m. Width 16.60 m and side height 6.70 m are kept from the original project. In the area of the newly installed cylindrical insertion the cargo hold with the volume of 1724 m³ is organized (the number of holds increased from 3 to 4). The hatch covers of the newly organized hold are of the "Folding" type.

All four holds with a total capacity of 11780 m³ are box-shaped, smooth-walled, and convenient for carrying out cargo operations and placing cargo without shifting.

Maximum continuous power of the main engine is 1935 kW. Increasing the length-to-width ratio of the vessel will allow for almost full fuel consumption and speed with the same main engine. Speed in operation is 10.5 knots.

There are 3 single block cabins and 8 single cabins with bathroom and shower to accommodate a crew of 11. A cabin for the pilot is provided. The total number of seats is 12.

In addition to the installation of the cylindrical insertion, the vessel will also undergo final completion works.
