Solemn putting in operation of multipurpose dry-cargo river-seagoing vessel with deadweight of 5770 tons at Kherson shipyard

On April 29, 2009 hoist flag ceremony on dry-cargo vessel "Kapitan Chekha" of 005RSD06.02 project took place in water area of Kherson shipyard.

This is the first dry-cargo vessel that was built by Kherson shipyard and "Concord Shipbuilding Corp" company for "VERNAL" shipping company (Chairman of company management is Alexander Elizarov).

Project 005RSD06.02 is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).

Vessel's building is carried out in accordance with normative document named "Building of internal waterways and river-sea going vessels using elements of maintained vessels". This document was issued by Russian River Register (RRR) under direction of Nikolay Efremov, doctor of economic sciences.

Designing and construction supervision is being carried out by Don-Cuban branch of RRR (Yuriy Sklyarenko is the head of branch).

Vessel was built on Russian River Register class notation M-SP 3.5 and reclassified to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class notation of KM Ice1 R2-RSN, which allows to make international voyages through Black, Mediterranean, Baltic and others Seas. It completely pays off traditional commercial geography of river-sea going vessel's operation, within boundaries of class restrictions.

005RSD06.02 prj. Vessel has double bottom and double sides and belongs to so-called "Volga-Don Max" type due to MEB internal classification, the principal particulars of which (overall length is of 138.84 m, breadth is of 16.5 m) are defined due to dimensions of the Volga-Don navigation canal locks.

Due to reasonable reduction of vessel's class decrease of metal amount for hull was reached. That allowed to provide record deadweight of 4813 tons for Volga-Don Canal specific draught of 3.6 m.

"Kapitan Checha", per se, is a continuation (re-equipment) of vessels' series of "Chelsea" type (005RSD06.01 project).

The vessel is optimized for work with draughts of 3.2-3.97 m. The maximum deadweight of 005RSD06.02 prj. with draught of 3.97 m is of 5774 tons (depth is of 5.5 m, height of cargo hatches coamings is of 3.5 m), with river draught of 3.60 m deadweight is of 4813 tons.

The dry cargo ship is assigned for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2.2, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.1, 8, 9 classes. The vessel has four holds with total capacity of 9780 m³ that allows to transport cargoes with the big stowage factor volume without any loss of cargo capacity. The double bottom is designed for distributed load intensity of 6.5 t/m².

Double sides breadth is of 2.15-1.69 m, double bottom height is of 0.9 m.

Total ballast tanks capacity is of 3118 m³.

Two main engines (medium speed) with capacity of 852 kw each provide cruising speed of 10.5 kn. Variable-pitch propellers are secured by nozzles.

The keel of vessel "Kapitan Chekha" was laid down on 24.12.04 on "Yuzhniy Sevastopol" yard. The hull was built there, then, in 2007, the vessel was transferred to Kherson shipyard for equipment mounting and fitting-out works carry-out.

The Ship-owner supposes to build one more vessel of the series on Kherson shipyard.
