Re-equipped dry-cargo vessel "Chelsea-2" with deadweight of 6080 tons is operated by Black Sea Shipping Management Company

Eight dry-cargo vessels of "Chelsea" type have been built since November 2003 by Kherson Shipyard and Concord Shipping Company. (Seven vessels have been put into operation, the eighth one).

Seven vessels were built for Black Sea Shipping Management Company (Anatoliy Chaban is a president of the company). And one vessel ("Kapitan Chekha") was built for Vernal Shipping company (Alekasndr Elizarov is a president of the company).

Vessel's building is carried out in accordance with normative document named "Building of internal waterways and river-sea going vessels using elements of maintained vessels". This document was issued by Russian River Register (RRR) under direction of Nikolay Efremov, doctor of economic sciences.

Vessels; projects were designed by Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).

The first vessel built in accordance with this guidance was "Chelsea-2" with deadweight of 5456 tons.

Dry-cargo vessel of 005RSD06 prj. "Chelsea-2" have been operated since February 2005. It is interesting to mark that, as ship-owner said, vessel have been offset herself and she continues successful operation on transportation of typical cargoes for this vessel's class (usually, grain and earlier - before crisis - scrap) in Black and Azov Seas basin and in Mediterranean Sea. During this period vessel "Chealsea-2" has been colliding with different conditions in sea and in ice and has proved her reliability. It is enough to speak about episode of winter 2007-2008 when vessel got into storm near port of Kasablanka (the vessel wasn't aloud to call in) with waves of 8 meters height and was into such over-project roughness more than 1 day.

The next vessels of the series were built according to the modified 005RSD06.01 prj., the main feature is mounting poop, that creates in combination with forecastle and upper deck continuous along the vessel's length "line".

In original project "Chelasea-2" such line was broken before habitable deckhouse, that smoothly transform into strengthened bracket (usual decision for re-equipment of 1565 and 507B prj., when habitable deckhouse transforms into superstructure, that, as a rule, lead to the building deckhouse anew).

Re-equipment allowed to increase deadweight during operation in sea, to save strength standard and increased hull hardness including hardness of stern.

That's why ship-owner decided to upgrade "Chelsea-2" up to level of "Chelsea-4" type.

Hull re-equipment was carried out at Kherson shipyard, 130 tons of steel was spent for new constructions and about 200 tons for replacement of existing ones.

Re-equipped vessel "Chelsea-2 has double bottom, double sides" and belongs to so-called "Volga-Don Max" type due to MEB internal classification, the principal particulars of which (overall length is of 139.60 m, breadth is of 16.5 m) are caused by dimensions of the Volga-Don navigation canal locks.

The vessel "Chelsea-2" is optimized for work with draughts of 3.2-4.10 m. The maximum deadweight of with draught of 4.10 m (depth is of 5.5 m, cargo hatch coamings' height is of 3.5) is of 6081 tons, with river draught of 3.60 m deadweight is of 4830 tons.

The dry cargo ship is assigned for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2.2, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.1, 8, 9 classes. The vessel has four holds with total capacity of 9780 m³ that allows to transport cargoes with the big stowage factor volume without any loss of cargo capacity. The double bottom is designed for distributed load intensity of 6.5 t/m².

Double bottom height is of 0.9 m, double sides breadth is of 2.15-1.69 m.

Total ballast tanks capacity is of 3211 cub m.

Two main diesels (medium speed) with capacity of 735 kWt each provide cruising speed of 10.0 kn. Fixed-pitch propellers are in turned nozzles.

Vessel's re-equipment was completed in April 2009.

It is supposed to build fourteen vessels in the series, at that according to the modified project.
