Newly built dry-cargo vessel "Svyatoy Nikolay" (RSD20 prj.) was christened in Kherson

On September 10, 2009 dry-cargo vessel "Svyatoy Nikolay" after completing of mooring tests was christened in Kherson.

"Svyatoy Nikolay" is lead multi-purpose dry-cargo vessel of new RSD20 project.

Vessel (building No. is of 18019) was built at OJSC "Kherson Shipyard" (Vasiliy Phedin is a general director).

"Moskam Shipping" company is the customer. "Moskam Shipping" is included in group of companies "Dawson" (Suren Osipov is a president of the company, Igor Gaponov is a general director).

Project RSD20 is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).

The vessel is assigned for transportation of general, bulk, scrap, grain, coal, timber, heavy and large-sized cargoes, 8'.5 and 9' ISO containers, dangerous goods of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 classes of IMDG Code and cargoes of category B of BC Code. Sailing regions are Mediterranean, Caspian, Black, Baltic, White, and North Seas.

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class of the project is of KM Ice 2 R2 AUT1. The project satisfies all the requirements of international conventions which were actual at the moment of laying down of the vessel's keel.

Vessel of RSD20 prj. belongs to so-called "Volga-Don Max" type due to MEB internal classification. She has maximum possible dimensions for Volga-Don canal.

"Svyatoy Nikolay" has less amount of holds (i.e. 3 instead of 4) with the same cargo loading capacity and is of single-screw type (but 3 rudders) as opposed to earlier built vessels of this class (006RSD02, 006RSD05, 005RSD06, 005RSD06.01, RSD11, RSD19 prjs.) and vessels that are being built of 007RSD07 and RSD24 prjs.

Besides, new project has higher standard of hull strength (close to RSD19 prj), increased hull members thickness and enough high ice category, that decrease a bit cargo-lifting capacity in river, but makes the vessel more effective during operation in sea.

With characterized draught of 3.6 m in Volga-Don canal deadweight is about 4000 tons, maximum deadweight in the sea while draught of 4.80 m is of 6716 tons.

Overall length is of 139.22 m, overall breadth is of 16.50 m, depth is of 6.20 m.

Summarized capacity of cargo holds is of 11400 cub. m, total container capacity is of 262 TEU, while holds' container capacity is of 192 TEU.

All holds are box-shaped, smooth-wall, convenient for carrying out the freight works and placing a cargo without shifting. The cargo holds' sizes are of 33.6x13.04 (hold Nos. 1,3), 32.0x13.04 m (hold No. 2), with the height of 8.95 m.

Cargo holds are equipped with sectional hatch covers of folding type with possibility of 100% opening.

Vessel's speed is 10 kn while draught at sea is of 4.8 m and 90% MCR is of 90%.

Medium-speed diesel (main engine) of 1800 kWt use heavy fuel oil with viscosity of IFO380. Heavy fuel stores are placed in deep-tanks in area of the ER fore bulkhead, separated from outside water by double bottom and double sides.

Movement and manoeuvrability of the vessel is provided by single fixed-pitch propeller in nozzle with diameter of 2600 mm, and three rudders (one balanced double-seat rudder is mounted in CL, two balanced hanged rudders are mounted by sides) and bow thruster.

Modern computing methods of hydrodynamics were used during vessel designing that allowed to find an optimum combination of propulsion-rudder system elements and hull forms. Defined combination provides high running qualities of the vessel.

Sea sailing autonomy is of 20 day.

Crew consists of 12 persons (16 places).

Designed vessel hull's life term is of 24 years. The double bottom is designed for distributed load intensity of 10.0 tons per sq. m, and also allows to use a bucket grab.

Vessel's "Svyatoy Nikolay" (building No. is of 18019) keel was laid down on 28.09.2007. Vessel was launched on 02.03.09.
