"Palmali" group of companies has signed up the contract on building of third series of "Armada" type tankers with Beshiktash Shipyard

On October 23, 2009 "Palmali" group of companies (Mubariz Mansimov is a president) has signed up the contract on building of third series of "Armada" type tankers of RST22M project with Beshiktash Shipyard (BESIKTAS GEMI INSAA ANONIM SIRKETI).

The new series vessels are logical continuation of 005RST01 project tankers known as first series "Armada" which were designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau for "Palmali" group of companies and which were built on "SELAH" and "ADA" shipyards in Tuzla (Turkey) in 2002-2006 and modification of second series tankers of RST22 project which were built on "Krasnoe Sormovo" shipyard (Nizhny Novgorod) in 2008-2009.

RST22M project is also designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).

The building of new shipyard of Beshiktash Group of companies in Yalova area (70 km from Instanbul, west coast of Izmit bay) was being started in 2007. In July 2009 the project was fully actualized, including dry dock with the dimensions of 235x38 m, longitudinal slip with the dimensions of 150x27 m and berths with the overall length about 450 m. Beshiktash is the rather famous (and not only because of soccer's club) Turkish financial-industrial group, in which are organically included shipyard and shipping company. The owner of Beshiktash Group is a president of Turkish Associations of Shipowners Metin Kalkavan.

Only for the 2002-2008 period Beshiktash group built 17 chemical carriers with deadweight from 4300 up to 26000 tons for Swedish, Danish, French, Italian customers and also for own aims. Now there are two chemical tankers of deadweight of 18000 and 27000 tons which are on the last stage of building at new shipyard.

There are 200 people who are working on Beshiktash shipyard in Yalova as a constant staff and about 30 contracting organizations have got involved in the work (about 600 workers).

The total area of the shipyard is about 100 thousand of sq.m., output is about 12 thousand tons of steel per year, carrying capacity of slipway cranes is 40 tons. The shipyard is also equipped with modern welding equipment, has developed advanced social infrastructure (from mini-hotel on shipyard's territory to high-speed boats and own ambulances).

Ten "Armada" type tankers and five "New Armada" type tankers are successfully operated on the river-sea and sea transportations in Caspian, Black, Mediterranean, Baltic and North Seas, including voyages around Europe and to Irish Sea in winter. They transport crude oil, masout, diesel fuel, other petroleum products and vegetable oils.

Using full-circle rudder propellers as movement and manoeuvre facilities, using submersible pumps, absence of longitudinal bulkhead in CL, full absence of a framing in cargo tanks, developed trunk are characteristic features of RST22M, RST22 and 005RST01 vessels' projects.

Vessels satisfy dimensions of the Volga-Don canal and Volga-Baltic Way. Overall RST22M prj. vessel length is of 139.95 m, breadth is of 16.6 m, depth is of 6.0 m.

Vessels belong to "Volga-Don Max" tankers' type.

New project tankers have increased sea function, increased for 650 tons deadweight at sea conditions and increased total cargo tanks capacity with keeping river possibilities in comparison with first series vessels of "Armada" type.

Vessels satisfy all new international requirements for transportation of vegetable oils, including two-compartment unsinkability.

Special requirements of the Russian and world petroleum companies, additional ecological limitations "ECO PROJECT" (ECO-S) class were taken into consideration during designing.

Hull's theoretical forms were defined using calculating hydromechanics methods (CFD modeling).

Total capacity of six cargo tanks and two slop ones is of 8090 cub. m, deadweight is about 7050 tons when sea draught is of 4.60 m. Deadweight is about 4700 tons when river draught is of 3.60 m. Cruising speed is of 10.5 knots.

Two medium-speed diesels (main engine) of 1200 kWt each use heavy fuel oil with viscosity of IFO380.

RST22M vessel's project Russian Maritime Register of shipping class notation is of KM Ice 2 R1 AUT1 COMBO oil tanker/chemical tanker type 2 (vegetable oil) (ESP) ECO-S.

In comparison with the second series of "Armada" type, all new requirements of International Conventions and Register Rules (MARPOL requirements due to access to double side and double bottom spaces and others), were taken into consideration. Submersible ballast pumps were mounted (as it was in basic project), stern manifold was excluded and arrangement of equipment in engine room was significantly changed because of exclusion of function of dismounting of full-circle rudder propellers through the upper deck.

Total 10 vessels have to be built in the third series (5 ones due to contract and 5 ones are optional). It is known that in the first series of "Armada" type there were built also ten tankers, and in the second series also ten tankers had to be built (but actually only 6 tankers were built for "Palmali" group of companies).
