"North Western Shipping Company" completed large re-equipment of dry-cargo vessel "Volzhskiy-47"

On May 31, 2011 "North Western Shipping Company" (Albert Vygovskiy is an executive director) completed large re-equipment of dry-cargo vessel "Volzhskiy-47".

Works were carried out at OJSC "Voznesensk fleet ROB" (Vladimir Medvedev is a director).

Re-equipment project was designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).

After re-equipment the vessel has achieved Russian Maritime Register of shipping class notation KM L4 R2-RSN.

The re-equipment project base is idea of usage high (3.5 m taking into consideration existing coamings) continuous longitudinal hatch coamings that allow to increase standard of general strength of vessel's hull (by 56%), cargo holds' capacity, tonnage in accordance with International Load Lines Convention. Existing coamings and previous upper deck were the most loaded elements that worked out their fatigue resource. These elements were located in the zone near to the neutral axis of the equivalent beam, so they were excluded from the general hull bend that allowed to save them as hull elements. Moment of inertia increase without bottom thickness changing allowed to increase bottom section modulus on 42%.

Forecastle height was increased for 1.7 m to improve sailing qualities. Moreover, sides' shell between decks in aft area was mounted, so full scale poop superstructure was generated.

Conventional vessel's deadweight was increased from 4350 tons up to 6050 tons (by 1700 tons or by 39%), cargo holds' capacity increased from 6441 cub. m up to 9404 cub. m (by 2963 cub. m or by 46%).

Main works were made at the shipyard, as follows:

• mounting of the new longitudinal cargo hatch coamings (height increasing of the existing ones by 2.5 m) with new main deck mounting;
• generation of poop superstructure;
• forecastle height and length increasing;
• in dry compartment (PS, 96-106 frames' region) carbon dioxide compartment is placed for fire extinguishing in cargo holds; with emergency exit towards main deck.

After re-equipment vessel "Volzhskiy-47" becames cargo double-screw type vessel with 4 cargo holds, with double bottom and double sides, with forecastle and poop, with ER and accommodations located aft.

The dry-cargo vessel is assigned for transportation of the general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, ISO type containers, dangerous goods and coal.

Vessel's principal dimensions are as follows:

Overall length is of 138.30 m;
Breadth is of 16.50 m;
Depth is of 5.50 m;
Draught (river/sea) is of 3.60/4.10 m;
Deadweight (river/sea) is of 4798/6050 t;
Hold's number is of 4;
Cargo holds capacity is of 9404 cub. m;
Ballast tanks capacity is of 3082 cub. m;
Ballast draught is of 2.68 m;
Hatch covers are of piggy back type.

Re-equipped dry-cargo vessel "Volzhskiy-47" has technical and economic indices that significantly exceed vessel's ones before re-equipment that allows her to be successfully operated in the conditions of the river-sea going and sea transportations.
