Train-ferry "Slavyanin" of CNF09 project was modernized for transportation of Irradiated Nuclear Fuel and became the fifth in the world vessel with IN

On January 11, 2012 train-ferry "Slavyanin" of "Anship" Shipping Company (Alexander Monin is the general director, Sergey Dobryakov is the technical director) obtained International Certificate for Irradiated Nuclear Fuel (INF) of INF 2 class transportation in accordance with INF Code.

Train-ferry "Slavyanin" became the fifth in the world vessel which was modernized for such specific dangerous cargoes transportation.

Train-ferry of CNF09 project (Marine Engineering Bureau is a designer) with capacity of 50 wagons was built at "Yuzhniy Sevastopol" shipyard in 2010 and was assigned for line from the port of Caucasus to the port of Varna (Bulgaria).

In the middle of 2010 by ship-owner's initiative Marine Engineering Bureau carried out expertise and developed vessel's re-equipment project for transportation of INF cargoes. This project foresaw both the installation of special systems for INF cargo and issue of operational documentation pack for transportation of indicated cargo.

CNII named for academic A.N.Krylov prepared scheme of wagons placing with INF cargo on vessel's deck and several of special vessel's documents in accordance with INF Code requirements.

On January 11, 2012 after new systems installation and vessel's inspection International Certificate about vessel's accordance to INF Code requirements was given out. The vessel acquired Ukrainian Register of Shipping class notation of KM Ice 2 R2 Ro-Ro ship INF 2. Overall length of train-ferry of CNF09 project is of 149.95 m, length between perpendiculars is of 139.94 m, overall breadth is of 22.0 m, moulded breadth is of 21.0 m, depth is of 8.00 m.

Deadweight is about 6258 tons due to Summer Freeboard draught of 4.50 m that allows to work from shallow water Caucasus port (Russian Federation) to the port of Varna (Bulgaria) and to the port of Poty (Georgia) providing cargo transportation on lines Russia - EU, Russia - Armenia.

The deckhouse is located fore and engine-room is located aft, single main engine with capacity of 5500 kWt works through reduction gear to variable-pitch propeller.

Railway wagons are placed on five railway lines of upper deck.

• Tank-wagon (length between coupling gauges of 12020 mm) capacity is of 50 units.
• Freight car (length between coupling gauges of 14730 mm) capacity is of 40 units.
• Passenger car (length between coupling gauges of 24540 mm) capacity is of 25 units.
• Open-top wagon (length between coupling gauges of 13920 mm) capacity is of 45 units.

Loading-unloading is of one-level type (as at almost all MEB designed train-ferries), that essentially reduces the price of coast terminals and provides loading-unloading of train (50 wagons) during 1.0 - 1.5 hours.

The cargo deck is designed for transportation of wagons with weight up to 97 tons each on the all lines, on outside lines (1 and 5) wagons with weight up to 219 tons (8-axles) can be transported, possible load of vehicles' axle is of 12 tons (4 wheels on the axle) and 10 tons (2 wheels on axle).

Cargo deck sizes allow to transport so-called "project" cargoes which are impossible to place on usual vessels. Presence of fore located deckhouse practically does not restrict height of large-sized cargoes.

The vessel is of single-screw type. Operational speed is of 12.0 kn. Vessel has two thrusters (fore and aft ones).
