Keel of lead dry-cargo vessel (RSD19 prj.) of "Volgo-Don Max" type was laid down at Volgograd shipyard

On January, 27, 2006 at Volgograd shipyard, which is included in group of the companies "Marine and oil-and-gas projects" (MOP), the keel of lead multi-purpose dry-cargo motorship (RSD19 prj.) of "Khazar" type was laid down. Vessel's deadweight is of 6750 tons.

Vessel's project is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau.

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class notation of the project is KM LU2 I A1.

Vessel belongs to so-called "Volga-Don Max" type due to MEB internal classification. She has maximum possible dimensions for Volga-Don Canal.

With characterized draught of 3.60 m in Volga-Don Canal deadweight is about 4340 tons, maximum deadweight in sea is of 6750 tons.

Vessel is going to be launched in August, 2006, to be put into operation in the middle of November, 2006.

Four vessels are ordered in total, option is of another 4 vessels.

RSD19 prj. vessels have higher class for operation in the sea, i.e. I limited and higher standard of hull strength comparing to other vessels of "Volga-Don Max" type which are being built now: prj. 006RSD02 "Nadezhda" type, prj. 006RSD05 "Gejdar Aliev" type, 005RSD06.01 prj. "Chelsea" type. Same time RSD19 has some smaller deadweight at restricted draughts.

These vessels are assigned for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and large-sized cargoes, ISO containers, dangerous goods. Sailing regions are Caspian, Mediterranean, Black, Baltic, White, North Seas, including voyages around Europe and to Irish Sea in winter.

Overall length of RSD19 prj. is of 139.95 m, overall breadth is of 16.70 m, breadth is of 16.50 m, depth is of 6.00 m.

Summarized capacity of cargo holds is of 10960 cub. m. Hatch covers are of folding type.

Vessel is double-screw with fixed-pitch propellers, cruising speed is more than 10.5 kn., summarized main engines (medium-speed) capacity is of 2400 kWt.

Basic fuel is of IFO380. Bow thruster capacity is of 200 kWt.

Fuel sailing autonomy is of 20 day. Crew consists of 13 persons.

Modern computing methods of hydrodynamics were used at vessel designing (Fig. 01 , Fig. 02) that allowed find an optimum combination of propulsion-rudder system elements and hull forms. Defined combination provides high running qualities of the vessel. It also provides propulsion coefficient above 0.6 during sailing at full draught and maximum speed due to propeller system of "propeller in the nozzle" type.

Calculations were carried out by Digital Marine Technology company.

Towing and self-running test of vessel model (see photo) were carried out to check project decisions and definitions of running qualities in big test pool at CNII named for academic A.N.Krylov. Carried out tests fully confirmed earlier received CFD simulation results.
