The solemn opening of the train-ferry line Samsoon (Turkey) - Caucasus (Russia) was on 19.02.13.

Train-ferries "Smat" and "Feruz" of CNF03.01 project of shipping company Black Sea Ferry Investment (51% owned by OJSC "Russian Railways") are used for transportation.

Minister of transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov, adviser of the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, the head of the Federal Agency of maritime and river transport Alexander Levitin, president of OJSC "Russian Railways" Vladimir Yakunin, acting head of the Federal railway agency Vladimir Chepets, director of state policy of maritime and river transport of the Russian Federation Konstantin Palnikov, director of state policy in the field of railway transport of the Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Petrenko, CEO of "Rosmorport" Andrew Lavrischev, CEO operator company ferry line " Caucasus -Samsoon" Hokim Matchanov and Turkish official members participated in the solemn action.

Such line significantly shorten the time and reduces the cost of delivering cargoes from Turkey to Russia and the Central Asian republics. The wheelset change (from 1520 mm to 1435 mm, and vice versa), or overload from carriages to motor transport or to European carriage gauge is implemented in the port of Samsoon.

The ferry "Feruz" set out on a voyage from Turkey to port of Caucasus, having onboard 40 cars with construction materials and consumer goods in Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on 19.02.13.

The line is opened on the basis of an agreement between the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Turkey about establishment of a mixed train-ferry ways by ports of Samsoon and Caucasus. The agreement was signed on 14.05.10 in Ankara, during the visit of the President of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Turkey.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Transport, Maxim Sokolov noted in his welcoming speech that ferry, which has been operated since December 2010, has passed the test in test mode. "Its cargo capacity of over 40,000 tons, and it increased over the previous year by almost 3 times in 2012. This year ferry capacity will increase in 2.5 times. Full accordance of formed regulatory framework for the successful work in this area of all requirements of the transportation process was confirmed by practice, "- minister said. He said that Council about ferry's operation was created for the successful work of it.

In addition to the Intergovernmental Agreement about establishment of a mixed train-ferry ways by ports of Samsoon and Caucasus and the Rules of transportation cargoes, cars and containers in a mixed international train-ferry way was signed the Interim Agreement between OJSC "Russian Railways", the general directorate of Turkish State Railways of the Republic, maritime carrier Ltd. The Minister congratulated all the participants of the ceremony. "This is a celebration for all those who worked on the creation of a new transport corridor for years, which has become another symbol of good neighborly relations, historically established between Turkey and Russia", - said M. Sokolov.

The first voyage of the ferry "Smat" of CNF03 prj. was implemented on this line on 16.12.10.

Ferry's CNF03.01 project was designed by Marine Engineering Bureau.

The vessels of CNF03.01 project SMAT and Feruz are assigned for operation on railway ferry lines from the port of Caucasus to the port of Poty and from the port of Caucasus to the port of Samsun (Turkey).

Vessels are designed and built for Russian River Register class of M-SP 3.5 with the simultaneously fulfillment of the requirements of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

Vessels are assigned for transportation of railway wagons and vehicles, and also ISO containers, dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2, 3, 4.1, 4.2, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 classes and large-sized cargoes.

Vessels' overall length is of 150.32 m, length between perpendiculars is of 140.31 m, overall breadth is of 22.0 m, moulded breadth is of 21.0 m, depth is of 7.15 m. The vessel's sizes are record for the vessels built for the Russian River Register class.

Deadweight is about 6500 tons with cargo waterline draught of 3.80 m that allows to make transportation from shallow water of Caucasus port (Russian Federation) to the port of Samsun (Turkey) and to the port of Poti (Georgia) to provide cargo transportation on lines Russia - Turkey and Russia - Armenia.

Ferry's speed was 10 kn with 75% usage of two diesel-generators capacity during running test and good manoeuvrability in the constrained conditions. Vessel is able to make full turn without side shifting by using two thrusters.

Vessel of CNF03.01 prj. has the deckhouse and engine-room located fore and propulsion motors located aft.

Railway wagons are placed on five railway lines of upper deck.

Tank cars capacity is of 50 units (length between coupling gauges is of 12020 mm). Freight car capacity is of 38 units (length between coupling gauges is of 14730 mm). Passenger car capacity is of 22 units (length between coupling gauges is of 24540 mm).

Supersize automobiles capacity is of 64 units. TEU capacity is 106 units in one level (depending on containers weight total TEU amount can reach 318 units).

In combination with small draught CNF03.01 prj. ferry has no analogues in the world by quantity of wagons taken aboard.

There are Russian and European standard railway lines on the ferry. This is a character feature of the ferry. Loading-unloading is of one-level type that essentially reduces the price of coast terminals and provides loading-unloading of train (50 wagons) during 1.0 - 1.5 hours.

The cargo deck is designed for transportation of wagons with weight up to 97 tons each, possible load of vehicles' axle is of 12 tons.

Cargo deck sizes (length is of 122.7 m, breadth is of 21.0 m) allow to transport so-called "project" cargoes which are impossible to place on usual vessels.

Presence of fore located deckhouse practically does not restrict height of large-sized cargoes.

The vessel is of double-screw type. Cruising speed is of 10.0 kn. Vessel has two thrusters.

Autonomy is of 15 day. Crew consists of 16 persons (23 places).

Lead vessel's CNF03.01 "SMAT" keel was laid down on 01.10.05. She was launched on 27.09.06 and was put into operation on 30.03.07.
The keel of second vessel of CNF03.01 prj. "Feruz" was laid down on 14.10.05. She was launched on 03.05.07 and put into operation on 29.11.08.
