Reports of Marine Engineering Bureau at the technical-science conference of naval structural mechanics dedicated to the memory of academic Yu.A. Shima

Conference took place in St.Petersburg on 19-20.12.2013 and was organized by FSUE "Krylovskiy State Scientific Center" (CNII named for academic A.N.Krylov) and by Central branch of Russian Technical-Science Shipbuilders Society named for academic A.N.Krylov (Sc.Dr., Professor V.M. Shaposhnikov is a head of organizing committee; Ph.D., Associate Professor Evgeniy Shishenin is a Scientific Secretary).

65 reports concerning actual problems of designing/construction and strength of vessels and marine/sea structure were presented on the traditional conference. 75 leading specialists from researching institutes, universities, designing organizations and students of shipbuilding universities participated in the conference.

Marine Engineering Bureau made 11 reports at the conference:

1. Design experience of multipurpose 4WT ice navigation salvage vessel. Authors are G.V. Egorov, N.V. Avtutov.

Design experience of MPSV07 series of multipurpose 4WT ice navigation salvage vessels (MSV) is analyzed. It is shown that ice and wind-wave conditions of the Far East and Northwest of Russia demand presence of unrestricted navigation area and high Arc5 ice class. The major factors determining successful performance of all spectrum of rescue works are sufficient ice passability, running ability for free water and seaworthiness. Such complex functions combination leads to mutually inconsistent tendencies when accepting contours, main particulars and other properties of MSV. Results of new MSV ice tests are presented.

2. Hull design features of the "Volgo-Balt Max" class cruise passenger vessel. Authors are G.V. Egorov, Ya.V. Kalugin.

Design experience of 4 deck cruise passenger vessel (for 550 passengers) is analyzed. This vessel is of "Volgo-Balt Max" class; she has record main particulars for our inland waterways, as follows: RRR class notation M-PR 2.5 (ice 30) A; length overall of 179.86 m; breadth overall of 17.00 m; depth of 5.50 m; maximal draught of 3.20 m; height overall (from BL) of 16.4m. Main construction features of this vessel are discussed including two atriums that influence significantly upon hull members continuity, big window cutouts in the sides, pillars minimal number.

3. Strength and ice features of single hold cargo vessel with maximal deadweight. Authors are G.V. Egorov, V.I. Tonyuk, E.U. Durnev.

Features of new dry cargo vessel concept with maximum possible deadweight are discussed. The vessel has length BP less than 85 m., ice category 1B due to Finnish-Swedish Rules, unrestricted navigation area, single "box" hold, speed about 12 kn. Fat forms of fore contours were designed for her in such way, that Finnish-Swedish Rules requirements were met "at the edge". As the result, in spite of the high ice class of DCV36 project good specific technical and economic characteristics were obtained. Foremost point is that unlike the biggest part of European coasters deadweight is about 5000 tons due to SWL draught (i.e. by 500 tons more than for the competing vessels with the same ice classes; that provides the significant advantages for the DCV36 series at the same cargo lines.

4. Justification of characteristic of shallow-draught multi-purpose supply vessels for northern part of Caspian Sea. Authors are G.V. Egorov, V.I. Tonyuk, N.N. Kalugina.

Hull design features of the shallow-draught multi-purpose TG05 supply tugs for northern part of Caspian Sea are described. They are assigned for towage and canting other vessels (including emergency ones) and floating objects at sea, at port or port roads; for cargo transportation on the open deck; fire fighting at other vessels, floating or shore objects.

5. Reliability and hull breakdown risk for Volgoneft" type tanker's hulls. Authors are G.V. Egorov, A.G. Egorov, N.F. Butenko.

It is shown that hull weight minimization for "Volgoneft' type tankers' hulls was reached thanks to broadest usage of 5-7 mm hull elements; accordingly tankers' river loading capacity was also increased. But as the reverse of the medal was significant decrease of vessels' operational life time, i.e. duration of safe operation without repair. Volgoneft' type tankers' design thickness provided 20 years operation without repair only in "M" class (i.e. without marine voyages). In "M-PR" class the biggest part of hull members had life time 10-20 years; and in "M-SP" class vessels was able to operate without repair not more than 5-10 years. Disasters with Volgoneft' type tankers took place mainly due to hull breakdown (87.5%) and a much more rarely due to fires and explosions (12.5%); that is very unusual for tankers.

6. The analysis of evolution and development perspectives of the requirements for the general strength of sea-going cargo vessels. Author is V.V. Kozlyakov.

The main attention is paid to analyze of indirect economical losses caused by damages and all type of accidents. Also there is shown damages and accident influence on optimal values of safety factor that was accepted from operational experience of vessels' hull with high and low reliability.

7. Main characteristics of "Dnepr-Max" class vessels. Author is A.G. Egorov.

Investigations results concerning main particulars of tug-barge trains of "Dnepro-Max" class are shown. These composite vessels are assigned for operation at the Dnepr River, Danube River (till the port of Reni), Black Sea marine ports and Azov Sea shallow water ports.

8. The experience of train ferryboat design for the port of Caucasus. Authors are G.V. Egorov, D.V. Chernikov.

The main characteristics of train ferries for Caucasus - Varna line are defined. Hull features of these train ferries are improved due to the port of Caucasus conditions (small water depths and restricted water area), port's shore ramp and conditions of wagons transportation (50 pcs.) on the single open deck.

9. The simplified method of residual strength assessment for mixed river-sea going dry cargo vessel when part of longitudinal members are missed. Author is V.A. Nilva.

Simplified method of accounting the loss of the part of longitudinal hull members is justified. This method is assigned for assessment of hull loading ability for the emergency dry cargo inland or river-sea going vessels and may be used by Emergency Response Services and for strength calculations at the earliest design steps.

10. The features of accounting strength and seaworthiness at the initial stages of design. Author is I.F. Davydov.

11. Comparison of approximate calculation methods for construction with several cross couplings. Author is N.F. Butenko.
