British Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) issued a list and description of the best vessels of 2013 ("Significant Ships of 2013"). Two tankers namely "SVL Liberty" and "Almetyevsk", designed by Marine Engineering Bureau (projects RST27 and RST25 correspondingly) are included into the set of 50 vessels of different purposes, types and dimensions (from cruise liners till super tankers) which was nominated by the oldest worldwide shipbuilder society. In accordance with RINA rules, experts investigate only head vessels for every shipyard that were put into operation at previous year. "SVL Liberty" and "Almetyevskare appeared in the company with such vessels as first in the world container vessel for 18000 TEU "Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller", first big LNG ferryboat "Viking Grace", 325 m cruise liner "Norwegian Breakway" for 4896 passengers (she is the biggest such type one for entering New-York).

Tanker "SVL Liberty" (RST27 prj.) with sea/ river deadweight of 7041/5439 t was built at JSE Kherson Shipyard (head vessel of three-vessels series); tanker "Almetyevsk" (RST25 prj.) with river/sea deadweight of 6610/5130 t was built at OJSE "Zelenodolsk factory named for A.M.Gorkiy" (head vessel of two-vessels series).

As it was marked earlier, the leader shipbuilder specialists realized that tanker (self-propelled vessel) has hull with record for international shipbuilding industry block coefficient of 0.936; and this vessel is built by big series (and is not virtual 3D model). Vessels showed speed of 11.7 kn during trials at running line with main engines power of 2100 kWt (0.875% of full output) and fore/aft draughts of 3.2/3.3 m. The contract deadweight of 6980/5378 is increased at Kherson tankers for 61 t, contract speed is increased for more than 1 kn.

"SVL Liberty" is a first fully equipped tanker constructed in the newest Ukraine history. Totally 3 such river-sea tankers (product carriers) were built at Kherson in 2013. This moment they work at Russian lines and have Novorossiysk as port of registry (look at photos from Russian inland waterways.

Tanker "Almetyevsk" (RST25 prj.) was built by Zelenodolsk Shipyard named for A.M. Gorkiy that is included in Holding Company "Ak Bars". "Nafta-Invest" is a customer for the series of 2 river-sea going tankers. Financing was ensured by "Ak Bars Leasing". Now vessels work under managing of "VF Tanker" management.

When anybody starts discussing main particulars of RST25 river-sea tanker designed by Marine Engineering Bureau as direct exchange for well known "Volgoneft" series, then he should begin from "Volgoneft" series themselves, because they represent domestic river sea going oil fleet for about 50 yeaes.

"Volgoneft" type tankers personify the whole epoch of Russian shipbuilding and shipping as one of the first in the world tankers with a double bottom and double sides. If one take into consideration that development of the 558 project started by Soviet designers in the late 50s of the last century, it became clear that that time this decision was revolutionary one. "Volgoneft" type tankers were classified at that time typical vessels line as NM-5000 type tankers with cargo capacity of about 5000 tons; they were intended for operation at inland waterways with possibility to sail to the roads of marine ports and large lakes.

On 1st of January, 2013 mean age of left "Volgoneft" type tankers (131 units) was of 45.2 years for 558/550 prj. and 38.5 years for 1577/550A prj. From this amount 23 vessels has mark "non-suitable". Hull weight minimization for "Volgoneft' type tankers' hulls was reached thanks to broadest usage of 5-7 mm hull elements; accordingly tankers' river loading capacity was also increased. But as the reverse of the medal was significant decrease of vessels' operational life time, i.e. duration of safe operation without repair.

Mixed river-sea going tankers transport of about 11.9 million tons of oil and oil products per year. The capacity of oil products transportation in the North-Western direction (from Kstovo, Nizhnie Mully, Ufa, Nizhnekamsk and other river ports to the Russian ports of the Gulf of Finland) is estimated in the amount of 4.0 million tons for 2015-2025 years (more than 5.3 million tons are for 2015-2017 years due to estimates of "VF Tanker" specialists and actually 5.02 million tons are in 2010 year, 5.27 million tons are in 2011 year, 4.97 million tons are in 2012 year). The capacity of oil products transportation in the Southern direction (from Tatyanka, Samara, Saratov, Kashpir, Oktjabrsk and other river ports to the roads transshipment complex of Caucasus port and the Caspian transit) accepted for 2015-2025 years in the amount of 6,75-10,0 million tons. Actually 4.73 million tons were reached in 2010, 4.65 million tons were reached in 2011, 6.9 million tons were reached in 2012.

Creation of RST25 project (and then RST27 one) was connected with neediness to change "Volgoneft" tankers at these directions. Undoubtedly new vessels have to be best in their class for shipowners. Reaching the most economical effect at cargo vessel operation require the most possible vessel's deadweight.

General dimensions of river-sea going vessels are restricted by the way conditions of inland waterways. So for these vessels characteristics that influence to shipowners' profit are efficient design of hull constructions, increasing of block coefficient and optimization of the propulsive complex.

Totally 27 RST27 tankers and 5 RST25 tankers were built during 2012-2013.
