The fifth dry-cargo vessel of "Caspian Express" type was put into operation

On May, 30, 2006 at "Ceksan" shipyard (Tuzla, Turkey) the fifth dry-cargo vessel was put into operation to "ALBROS" shipping company (Raim Alekperov is a general director). Vessel's deadweight is of 3760 tons.

Vessel's name is "Ulus Wind".

Vessel's project 003RSD04 is designed by the Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB).

Vessel's Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class notation is of KM LU2 II A3.

Vessel is destined for work with draughts of 4.1-4.5 m at Russian ports of Azov and Caspian Seas with possibility sailing through on the Volga-Don Canal. The vessel is a symbiosis product of the European coasters and Russian river-sea sailing conditions. It allows to transport project large-sized cargoes from European ports to Caspian ones.

Vessel belongs to so-called "Azov 3000" type due to MEB internal classification, because she can surely load cargo of 3000 tons (+10%) at small draughts of Azov and Caspian ports. Vessel's deadweight is of 2590 tons when draught in river is of 3.60 m. Deadweight is of 3760 tons when draught in sea water is of 4.46 m.

The single vessel's hold is box-shaped, smooth-wall, convenient for carrying out the freight works and placing a cargo without shifting.

The cargo hold's size is of 59.15 С… 13.2 С… 6.39 m while vessel's effective length of 85 m. These sizes guarantee allocation of two tiers of containers with height of 9-9.5' and provide possibility of large-sized non-standard cargoes transportation.

Because of such function 003RSD04 prj. vessels are convenient for equipment delivery to intensive development of Caspian shelf zone.

Moreover, non-standard cargo places can be delivered without reloading from any European port or from any Persian Gulf's area port through internal waterways of the Russian Federation to Caspian Sea.

Special scheme of vessel's compartments was designed to satisfy SOLAS requirements to probability index for ship subdivision for possibility of arrange single cargo hold. Tank plan foresees special arrangement of ballast tanks in double bottom and double sides and dry compartment in double bottom with presence of through-flowing pipes which provides minimum list when the hull is damaged.

Hatch covers are of "multifolding" type.

Capacity of single-screw engine with variable-pitch propeller is of 1290 kWt and shaft generator capacity is of 216 kWt.

During marine test, vessel's cruising speed was of 11.2 knots (with 85% MDC).

Good manoeuvrability in river, shallow water, in the constrained conditions is ensured because of comparative small length and presence of bow thruster with capacity of 200 kWt.

As opposed to first four vessels of the series, which had ice category LU1, "Ulus Wind" was strengthened up to category LU2. Strengthening allows to maintain a vessel in running voyage through rare ice brush with thickness up to 55 cm with speed of 5 kn and behind the icebreaker through ice-field with thickness up to 50 cm with speed of 3 kn.

Capacity of main engine was increased from 1290 up to 1470 kWt. The systems, arrangement and tanks arrangement were significantly modified. These modifications are allowed to operate "Ulus Wind" on IFO 180 heavy oil fuel (first vessels of the series worked on diesel oil).

Vessel's keel was laid down on 24.12.04. She was launched on 09.02.06. Vessel was put into operation on 30.05.06.
