The formation of CNF11CPD head cargo-passenger car-railway ferryboat's hull for the Vanino-Kholmsk line is nearing completing

According to the press service of Amur Shipbuilding Yard, the fully welded hull of CNF11CPD cargo-passenger car-railway ferryboat (building number 00300) for the Vanino-Kholmsk line should be presented to the Customer and the Register by the 10th of May.

"In early April, the last three blocks of the future ferryboat left the welding workshop; shipbuilders plan to complete all welding work for joining and mounting of the vessel's blocks by the 10th of May.

Simultaneously with the joining of blocks welding of intra-block structures (decks, small bulkheads) will be carried out. Welding is already completing on the previously joined fore blocks; all the intra-block and mounting junctions are being presented to the customer and the Register.

A little later it is planned to complete welding on the fore block N1, that has not been fully formed yet (due to the design features). The remaining large units are supposed to be joined by a floating crane, however, it can be used when the filling basin is freed from ice. Commence of works is scheduled for the 2nd of May.

In early May, assembly workers should commence their work; they will start preparations for mounting, then mounting the shaft line, steering and thruster units fore and aft. Mounting of outside fittings also will be commenced; they should be tested before launching.

This moment testing of ballast tanks is carried out., Before launching, in total it is necessary to test 52 bottom and side ballast tanks, of which only five have been tested so far", - said Sergey Poleshchuk.

In the second half of May, the construction of a ship-lifting pontoon will start in the slipway workshop. It's destination is to facilitate the vessel's floating in the filling basin and her forwarding to the outfitting embankment. It is planned that in the first half of July, when the rudder-screw complex is mounted, the pontoon will be attached to the aft end of the ferryboat.

According to their characteristics, the new CNF11CPD ferry boats will be significantly better "Sakhalin" type ones that already operate.

Each of the new CNF11CPD ferry boats can take on board simultaneously 32 wagons plus 12 car trains or 39 car trains (if there are no wagons on the main deck), as well as 200 passengers in addition.

The total carrying capacity of the Vanino-Kholmsk passage will increase up to 55%.

The need of the fleet renewal is caused by the worn-out technical conditions of the existing vessels (average age is 29 years), high rate accident risks and high operating costs (the average percentage of ferry boats' demurrage due to repair works is 25%). The ferry passage of Vanino-Kholmsk provides more than 75% of whole freight traffic between the island and the mainland and about 25% of all passenger transportations. According to the experts forecasts, in the next three years cargo turnover may increase by 25%.

The new CNF11CPD ferry boats will allow the Sakhalin producers to forward products to the mainland in time; will provide food security and expand possibility of transportation for certain types of cargo.

Project documentation for the vessel under construction was developed by the Marine Engineering Bureau, working-design and technological documentation by Vympel Design Bureau.

The CNF11CPD vessels are intended for transportation of Russian standard railway.

trains with gauge of 1520 mm, all types of cars, including car trains with 12 (13.5) m semi-trailer trucks and container platforms, various wheeled vehicles and containers on roll trailers, up to 30 ref. containers, as well as dangerous goods of classes 1.1-1.6; 1.4S; 2.1-2.3; 3; 4.1-4.3; 5.1; 6.1; 8 and 9 in accordance with the provisions of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and the National Maritime Dangerous Goods Regulations (MOPOG Rules). Transportation is foreseen of at least of 32 railway wagons or 27 car trains on the main deck, 12 car trains on the lower deck and about 9 cars (1.5 tons). Places for accommodation and transportation for 200 passengers (112 cabin places and 88 saloon places) are onboard the vessel.

CNF11CPD project of the car-railway-cargo-passenger new generation ferryboat for the Vanino-Kholmsk line provides in comparison with the existing "Sakhalin" type vessels:

• enhanced cargo capacity (truck cars capacity is 2 times bigger);
• weather restrictions absence (unrestricted sailing region);
• ability of working in severe ice conditions (speed is 6-8 kn at 80 cm ice and about 3 kn at 1.0 m ice);
• ability to carry out independent (several times per day) moorings without towing assistance;
• ability for long reverse movement through constrained water area of the port of Kholmsk;
• ability to keep up daily cycle of round voyage (operation speed is 18 kn);
• 2-hours staying for loading-unloading operations.

The number of passengers (200 people) accepted in the new project reflects the peak line need at a summer season vacations and is set according to the offer of the Sakhalin Region Government; it is essentially important to provide solving of a social problem of recreation providing for the region's population 200 passengers distribution is as follows: 16 ones at double cabins with water closets, 96 ones at four-berth cabins with water closets and 88 ones at saloon chairs.

The keel of the lead CNF11CPD vessel (building No. 00300) was laid down on 29.0617.
The keel of the second vessel (building No. 00301) was laid down on 29.06.2017.
